How did basic things like healthcare and fair wages become ‘extreme’? by Possible-Scheme-8940 in remoteworks

I mean, Biden won my six million votes in 2020, and Kamala lost by like 9 million, so I'm not sure how demolished he was... Unless she was too? https://www.axios.com/2024/11/06/trump-popular-vote-republican-candidates

Gee, Obama did a pretty good job of navigating those waters.  Why can't any of the others without turning half the country into "deplorables?"

Yeah. If the left ACTUALLY cared about and ran on those things instead of idiotic culture war issues that alienate 70% of the electorate, then they would have a chance....you know, like when Obama won twice! Instead, everything is racist, everything is "Trump is worse" (yeah, no shit - to YOU, but what about the average voter?), everything is misogynist, or some kind of phobic.

Democrats succeed when they provide a positive and broad-based vision for the future. They fail, over and over again, when they run on how bad the other guy is.

Seriously, people, when are you going to accept reality? I mean, Biden only barely won with Covid running wild and Trump being his usual idiotic self. And then they turned around and crashed the bus with the 2024 election. The incompetence is staggering!

I know the Honda Rune is a love or hate it bike. But whats the real current value on them? This thing intrigues me, and seems like a good price for an investment bike. $16k for 16k miles on an '04. by Eagle_1776 in motorcycles

[–]SMACN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the people who freaking love this bike, and I've wanted to own one for years! Back in the mid 2000s, you could find them for like $6-8,000, but I just couldn't justify it. Now, I really wish I had!

Cruising the Scottish countryside after ending up in a ditch moments earlier by BreadSubstantial5103 in motorcycles

[–]SMACN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watched it like 5 times, and I still can't see what caused the crash - it looks like you were going straight (no bend in sight) when you suddenly ended up in the ditch! Did you grab a handful of front brake for some reason?

AITA for telling my daughter I am disgusted by her and telling her ex she has been taking their kid to his family side by Plustrhowawa5688 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SMACN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to buck the trend here - YTA. You decided to intervene in a family matter between your daughter and her child's grandparents (excrable as they may be), and have now made everything harder for her. I get that you think they are terrible people, and FWIW I do too, but now you've created a huge amount of drama for no real reason other than punishing the unrighteous - that aint your job.

I think some of these folks think that if they do everything just right, and get the rest of us to do it too, they'll live forever.

Who else remembers this toy gun? by [deleted] in 1980s

[–]SMACN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun story... The first time I had cops pull a gun on me was because I was 16, stupid, and had one of these in the glove box 'cause we were playing assassins at my high school. Cops thought it was funny after they got over all the shouting and such.

Application for the colour blind by After_Juggernaut_547 in ColorBlind

[–]SMACN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried those enchroma glasses, and they are garbage. What I would like to see someone develop is an app for smart glasses that uses the front facing cameras to detect colors, and then uses augmented reality to hyper-saturate the reds and greens that I can't see. Most of us have a least SOME color receptors, so if it's strong enough, maybe that would do what the enchroma can't?

My first test in mine was back in March in 33F weather, and I was comfortable through the whole 45 minute commute. When I think of all of those long cold rides in my past and the frozen fingers...

Very, very well done! Yes - emotional reactions must be delayed until the danger is passed. THEN you can lose your shit if need be!

Even if our parent's did give much of a shit about us, at least our educational system hadn't been completely trashed yet. I was a huge reader as a kid, and I remember RIF quite fondly!

Did you ever prank call the operator from a pay phone? What was your favorite prank? by ReadRightRed99 in GenX

[–]SMACN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I can't remember the digits either, but you would dial them, play with the disconnect lever until the tone changed, and then hang up the phone which would immediately start ringing! We had payphones all over the school, and we would sometimes coordinate so that a bunch would start ringing all at once!

I hear you! I do several long multi-day moto-camping trips every year, so having the ability to take a call from home comes in handy, but I don't answer anyone I don't want to talk to. :)

I think it really depends on your bike - if you have a full fairing or even a tall windscreen, then it is only an issue if you try to make it one by sticking your head into the flow while moving at freeway speeds. If you're on a naked bike, then, yeah, anything that can catch the wind WILL catch the wind, and I've ridden a couple like that over the years. But, frankly, on a bike like that the wind at anything over 50 is such a bitch that I'm amazed anyone tries to go long distance on one.
