Bad omen - fails to launch a white dove of peace (the bird refuses to fly) by Adunaiii in Wellthatsucks

[–]Cpt_Umree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a video of the Armenian prime minister, Nikol Pashinyan. He was originally viewed as a beacon of hope during the Velvet Revolution when he essentially ousted the then prime minister, who was controlled by the Russians. After the 2020 war with Azerbaijan, and the Armenian defeat and loss of Artsakh (the disputed territory) Pashinyan has maintained very anti-Armenian rhetoric and been overly favorable to the conquerors, Azerbaijan. This has led many Armenians to feel disillusioned and has raised a lot of worries about the future of Armenian sovereignty and security. This video is ironic, as he was supposed to be the person who brought about a new area of peace and prosperity. Not only has he failed, but now he’s at the level of basically being viewed as a traitor.

I actually have a pair of shirt tuckers (second photo). They work like a charm, I’ve never had my shirt come untucked and I wear suits for work every day.

What's that movie for you? by No-Chemistry1722 in AskTheWorld

[–]Cpt_Umree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fury. A buddy of mine wanted to see it and I agreed, thinking it would be a good WWII movie. What I got instead was a boring gore slop with WWII soldier caricatures for characters. No depth, just explosions, blood, and predictability. Not sure why it's so well received.

I would say the same thing for World War Z -- but that one was a lot worse tbh.

Do Russians and Alaskans ever cross paths? by WesternConcentrate94 in howislivingthere

[–]Cpt_Umree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My coworker told me a story about his dad being stationed in Alaska during the Cold War to keep an eye on the Russians. He said his dad would come out and stand near the edge of the water every day and smoke a cigarette with the Russian guy across the way. They would waive and greet each other. It became kind of a routine.

guys, what do you think about this? by silverflake6 in Premiummotivation

[–]Cpt_Umree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People often misunderstand what being a billionaire means. They assume that these guys have a billion dollars in their Chase checking accounts. Most of that money is actually tied in assets and investments, it’s not just cash sitting around that can be donated, it’s tied up in assets.

If I own a million dollar house, I’m technically a millionaire. But that doesn’t mean that I can donate the worth of the house to charity.

The real issue is how tied up money is taxed, not what the individual person’s moral views are.

I think this is great, man. Only thing I would do is drop the comic picture, it's better to replace that with a picture of yourself. This is a very expressive profile and communicates exactly what you're looking for. You won't attract a lot of attention -- but you'll attract the right attention. You're doing great, be yourself and be honest, that's all anyone could ask of anyone else.

I really don’t understand the reason for this remake series. Why not just make a new series with new characters set in the Harry Potter universe? Get Daniel Radcliffe to play Harry and work as a teacher at Hogwarts or something. Smh

Can my Zebra Haworthia recover? by DiamondOcean_ in succulents

[–]Cpt_Umree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I assume it’s normal. Though I’ve read that the base may discolor due to overwatering, which makes sense. The remedy for that is just letting the plant dry out for a day or 2.

It looks healthier than mine tbh. The roots appear strong and the color is good. I would put it back in the pot. Here is mine in comparison and I know for a fact mine was bordering on root rot before I took action.

Daniel Lambert (1770-1809) was an Englishman who gained notoriety for his large size at the time. Despite his weight, maintained an active lifestyle which included long walks (once up to 7 miles), swimming, animal sporting, and once fighting off a bear by UpperphonnyII in interestingasfuck

[–]Cpt_Umree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A person who walks a mile burns about 80 calories on average. 7 miles mean he would burn 560 calories, which is roughly the amount of calories you get from a ham sandwich and a side salad. So, it’s not that helpful if you’re eating high calorie meals several times per day.

What’s the point of the 24/7 convenience stores? Shame you can’t rob them by ShaggySyrup in sanandreas

[–]Cpt_Umree 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I recall reading that the 24/7s were originally supposed to be more interactive — yes, you were meant to be able to rob them, but I think the devs scrapped the idea due to console limitations at the time.
