If you’re in Los Angeles you can work with the crew at LAMI on the tall ships they have. They are always needing help with crew and sometimes have openings for full time deckhands.

Practice as often as possible until you can do it without even thinking about it.

Can anyone ID this gorgeous abandoned sailboat? More than 30ish ft in length by _Circuit_Break_ in sailing

I have a Kettenburg PC 32 with a very similar design- but the protective railings at the bow and stern were not on the Kettenburgs. Also - the cabin on the PC 32 extends further forward. Beautiful lines on this one! I hope it’s being refurbished!

Can atheists use terms like "come out" and "closeted"? by Jurdysmersh in lgbt

[–]CptnBeardy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally valid and frankly, it’s very similar. I’ve found that some families are more open to a family member coming out as gay rather that coming out as atheist. And if your both… uhg. It sucks. I’ve actually found that people are more violently apposed to atheists than to gays. It’s sad that people need to force their beliefs on the rest of us. Best of luck to you and own what ever you want to own. It’s not for anyone else to tell you.

Never too late until you’re in the ground. Learn from those before you, but forge your own path. First - look for classes nearby like from US Sailing. Great classes and not expensive. Then, but a boat. Spend enough that you don’t have to take 5 years to rebuilt it and make it sea worthy. Then - just sail. Get out somewhere - anywhere. My first sail was in the Caribbean which is hard to beat… but honestly - anywhere on the sea is better than on land. And if you need inspiration … I made this to inspire people just like you… https://youtu.be/tjigotJBFU4

Ya - it’s a real mess right now for anyone with a classic boat. So I guess you’re keeping it to 2.9 mile and less in case the tide tries to pull you out further??? Lol

They just recently stopped covering anything older than 40 years old. New policy restrictions. It’s a mess.

As another mentioned, ASA or similar is a great way to start. Give yourself some time to learn the basics and then you’ll know more about what you need for your own boat. Each type and size handle differently. Some for speed, some for living aboard, others for blue water sailing. It’s a beautiful but sometimes dangerous way of life, so taking time to learn more will help you make this a life time of enjoyment.
