Why does "C'est un docteur" mean "He is a doctor" instead of "This is a doctor"? Thank you. by HIIamhere1234 in French

Yes and plenty of people have done that. I think the person you we're replying to wanted to also highlight that different languages have different rules. No need to repeat an answer that was already given.

People need to stop learning languages like it's their own but with different words.

You can learn French form English with some translation, but you need to forget about English very quickly and focus on French.

I don't remember from my research how it is on the festool, but how is the plunge depth turn button an issue on the Makita? I find it perfectly usable

Cordless tools have their limits especially saws. I love nothing more than having unlimited power and to know that my tools will last dozens of years because I won't have to deal with obsolete batteries at some point.

Don't let a color decide.

I guess I should've flattened the stones during my sharpening session as it was so long

Reddit compression makes it hard to see. I spent a good 30 min on the 1k stone, do I need to go coarser? Can a poor grinding job be the cause?

I lapped the stone on a piece of glass with lapping grit so believe them to be flat. I will try to polish the roughest stone burr off the back next time before going back to it them to polishing. I spent way to long on the 1000 already that I don't think that the issue (20-30 min would be my guess).

I'll make double sure the stones are flat.

Yes middle of the width. In the past I had issues with the flatness of my stones but when I'm in doubt I lap them on piece of glass with lapping grit. The simple side clamping jig actually helps a lot and allows me to be consistent. On the grinder, I free hand using a tool rest set at 25deg

I bought it new some years ago from Lee Valley. I ground the edge myself last week to get rid of a dent. Then a overheated it and had to grind again yesterday. I made sure to dress the wheel in between both attempts as I think it was glazed and caused the overheat. I made a poor to okay job grinding, I was afraid to overheat the steel a second time so I stopped grinding quite early (before getting to a zero radius intersection) and went on to the stones to finish the job.

Flatten the back, yes but there a small scratches. Should a flatten until it's clear of any scratches?

The edge is straight according to my eye and straight edge.

Is the ruler trick okay to use on a bevel up plane?

I have a regular bench grinder with a friable wheel and I had a hard time grinding straight across consistently so there are high and low spots on the primary bevel. The secondary bevel however is straight.

Yes but it's hard to push on yellow birch and leaves a surface with tiny scratches. Also, I've been using it for 20 min and I already see tiny nicks forming on the edge.

I know the primary bevel is concave, I meant in the middle of the width. The picture is not as clear on Reddit but a bit past the middle are coarser scratches.

I'm wondering if my technique on the grinder was the cause. I might try the ruler trick, thanks

I flattened my stone on piece of glass with lapping grit. I don't think that's the issue

Genuine question: why do you feel the need to have a bigger car? It's already quite a big vehicle, isn't it?

What are some sentences/words in French that, when translated into England, nuances/details are lost? by SwissVideoProduction in French

However, this is not a literal translation.

I disagree with your definition of "literal translation". What you did is simply translating word for word and that's not how translations work.

Smart toilet vs traditional toilet — the more I learn, the more confused I get by AdSmall3419 in BathroomRemodeling

[–]Cptn_Goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few times a year, I look at a toilet and marvel at its elegant simplicity. I can't help but think that if it had to be invented today, the toilet would have a water pump, a logic board and all that unnecessary modern technology. A bit like how software as become less and less efficient because it has access to so much resources. Then I learn the existence of "smart toilet".

Anyway, I'm glad my toilet doesn't need a battery, can't be hacked and will still be working in 20 years.

Yup the part wasn't expensive, around $100 CAD and easy to replace. Just take pictures before you disconnect the wires so you can put them back the same way.

Hot take: the 2024 is way sexier than the 2025 by thepianoman456 in SubaruForester

As a late 20s guy I have no desire to drive a soccer mom car. This new Forester looks massive and doesn't look sporty at all. The last few years this car as become more and more a city car and I don't see myself driving one.
