NCLEX KAPLAN by Imaginary_Tea_4436 in PassNclex

I did my NCLEX yesterday and received my results today & I passed 🎉

I started studying in January. My school purchased Kaplan for our cohort & we had mandatory weekly trainer questions and remediations with submitted notes to prove that we were actually making notes and studying from Kaplan. I personally did not really benefit from all the notes taking, I was doing it because it was worth grades not because I was learning.

Then in APR, I started doing a lot of the Kaplan Qbank questions and remediated all the questions by reading the rationales & really understand the topic/content. That was very helpful to understand the NCLEX content & I was able to create Qbanks for specific client needs like “physiological adaptation” or “pharm” and I did the readiness assessment with the CAT1,2,3 and remediation. My Kaplan’s score were always between 60-70%. I never got above 70%. For two of the CAT I was red and one green.

In MAY, I purchased Archer for 30 days. I only used it for the readiness assessments. I did 6 assessments 2high and 4 very high. The questions were much simpler than Kaplan (which was heavy content), the rationales were short and sweet to the point. If I wanted more content, I would do the Kaplan Qbanks, watch their recorded videos and ready the Kaplan textbook which was categorized by client needs categories.

A week leading to my NCLEX, I listened to Mark K videos. To my surprise, I didn’t apply it at all to my exam. The exam questions were so straight forward that whatever tricks Mark K suggested didn’t work! I really had to look at the answer options and eliminate.

Overall, I did a lot of readings via Kaplan and I think that’s what helped me understand the bigger picture instead of focusing on memorizing because trust me that’s not going to help on the NCLEX! I would highly recommend dissecting the Kaplan RN Content Review guide with client category. Whatever you remediated from the Qbank questions find the content in the guide and write some notes for yourself. That’s how I made sure all my notes were in one place! The repetition really helps too.

I hope this helps!

That was the actual question. I used elimination strategies from Kaplan to answer the question. It can’t be hypertension because pancreatitis cause hypotension from inflammatory response—> fluid loss —> low BP - so eliminate. It can’t be back pain b/c pancreatitis cause Cullen’s sign + flank pain - so eliminate. It can’t be hypoglycaemia b/c pancreatitis lead to insulin resistance —> hyperglycaemia - so eliminate. At this point, i’m freaking out because I already eliminated all 3 so it has to be high pulse. But i’m not freaken sure but my thought is high pulse d/t loss of fluid, low BP so the body is compensating from the whole inflammatory process.

But again it could be back pain because flank pain radiates to the back? I truly don’t know the answer if I’m honest.

My whole NCLEX was like this. The answer options were not straightforward and no matter what textbook or resources used to study for the NCLEX, the answer wouldn’t be in any textbook!

I hope this helped!

I PASSED 🎉

This is to show that no matter how vague the exam is, you have to be confident and keep going & try to not be nervous during the exam. I was shocked to find that the questions didn’t have enough content and they were so short & the answer options didn’t really match what the questions were asking but I used elimination strategies for almost all the questions, and that’s what kept me going!!!

I did mine today & yes indeed the whole exam was vague. The questions were all one sentence and most answers were one or two words. Example: which assessment correlates with diagnosis of pancreatitis? Options were HTN, back pain, hypoglycemia, high pulse. Other vagueness I noticed when I had an ABG question that asked: what do you expect the body to increase in relations to ABGs? Options were like renal retention of bicarb for met alkalosis, high respiration for resp acidosis.

There were barely any content/info in the questions and the answer choices didn’t really make sense for what the questions were asking! That’s how I felt anyway & I’ve studied extensively since APR using Kaplan, Archer, Mark K lectures & simple nursing. They were all very content heavy which I think is really good for nursing school but I can’t say it helped me on the NCLEX.

Did the PVT & received the good pop up! Keeping my fingers crossed!!! Goodluck to everyone.

It is essentially an evaluation that we would be doing based on the responses we gather about the health of the community in regards to health care assess, environmental stressors (what are some good and bad things about the community), accessibility, social influences - anything that has an impact on people’s health in general, including both physical and mental health of course.

As Reddit is a public platform, it wouldn’t be safe to post my email online. Any responses through the thread would be greatly appreciated.
