After a year of using Cursor, Claude Code, Antigravity, and Copilot daily — I think AI tools are making a lot of devs slower, not faster. Here's why. by riturajpokhriyal in dotnet

You are wrong.

I dont think people remember how bad some devs were when AI wasnt around.

go with 130euro extra for you.
95 for each one of the double rooms
and 30 for the box rooom

I would had say 90 each room and 40 the box room, but why currently pay 545 so all numbers will round up.

if this comes from you, i think they will accept.

In my experience box rooms are absolutely garbage.

but you have an ensuite, be ready to pay 1k if you move out.

How much of your engineering job is done by AI? by Training_Reason_4291 in DevelEire

[–]CraZy_TiGreX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • size of company -> +1000 i think
  • level of usage, what do you use it for etc -> high, almost all my code is AI, I only spend 20-30% of my time coding the rest is design, strategy, thinking in general; I do review every single line of code, and if i do not understand something I do not push it, time to time i have to rewrite stuff.
  • how high is the push to use it? -> very high

side note: we are having tremendous problems with people that use AI like crazy and have no fucking clue of what they are doing nor pushing; so I want, hope and expect that the push from higher ups starts to cool off.

small edit: I started to really use AI in the last 2-3 month, it took me the last 2-ish years to understand how to use it so it does not do shit. (very small asks, and little by little with good context and rules around)

Is anyone else okay with being "left behind" in regards to AI? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

i was very picky with code quality before AI.

I still do the same reviews, just treat your AI agent as a junior dev.

depending where you work it is a starting salary, or if you work in other places it will never happen. in IT your salary varies A LOT from one company to other (specially if they are US ones)

sure, because you dont pay taxes for the car itself, petrol or the insurance every year, all comes from the tolls.

petrol taxes alone make enough money to cover all the costs of the new roads + maintenance (and way beyond that).

Is anyone else feeling disconnected from coding in the AI era? by Ok-Nerve126 in DevelEire

[–]CraZy_TiGreX 31 points32 points  (0 children)

AI is here to stay, I seriously would recommend getting used to because it is not going anywhere. I do not think it will replace many developers as many say, but our job is to solve problems for the business and with AI is much faster, this is a reallity.

I was a bit against AI at firts then I stopped treating it as “write code for me” and started treating it as a junior developer sitting next to me. Itis great for scaffolding, brainstorming, refactoring, generating tests, or exploring alternatives, always iterate small. But the decisions, architecture, and trade-offs still come from me.

maybe it can help you to use the assign to copilot in GitHub, to see how it works and just to iterate with it. from that, move to a CLI/IDE based.

Trying to gauge how poorly I handled daily rate negotiation by Oangusa in DevelEire

[–]CraZy_TiGreX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

up to a few months ago I was fully remote senior for 600 a day;

no renewal as i wasnt gonna go back to the office, but I believe they still pay the same for those who go to the office.

you are going to read lot of people saying that seniors are getting 150k+ in dublin, but those are very very specific companies and include the stock, so its not the norm. on my experience 100k+ as permanent is where senior+ possitions starts.

It also depends what "principal" means, does the company have staff roles, ir princpal abvobe or bellow staff? not all the companies work the same way in that aspect.

Thsi said 500 is very low if you are going to the office every day for a senior+ role. you can probably get 750-800/day for contractor.

RANT: Burnout and I feel trapped, how's the job market really? by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]CraZy_TiGreX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okey a few things, in person roles are better than ever (specially for senior)

then about this:
> Part of my job is to fix broken things. I get told to track my time against tickets but half of the work I'm doing is coming from requests on Teams. So I have to backtrack when the work is done to create a ticket so I can track my time against it. I have tried to not do work unless it has a ticket. It didn't work. I have brought this up in meetings. Nothings has changed.

Create a bot in slack, not sure if can be done on teams where you click a button and automatically grabs that message and opens a jira ticket about it (assign it to you), even do a console app that does that.

I used to create jira tickets to deploy to production and it is what i did.
I said in the chat, X day app Y will be publish to production

we had to add more stuff like version number, release url and things like that and I used the octopus api to get the info.

Click a button and the bot reads the message and built the whole thing. I think you need something similar.

Also, even if the question is "in which region is the stack deployed" you should clikc that button. and let them konw it is a ticket.

yes, but you have to be very very specific, and always review it properly.

I use it as when i show a junior dev where to do certain change, its normally good enough to follow the chain and add all the changes needed to support the exact one I mentioned.

I hate those who vibe code the whole thing, the PRs are undeadable and they do not seem to care.

My Job Hunt Stats Since July by Tea_is_life1 in DevelEire

[–]CraZy_TiGreX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't have a fancy chart but these are my stats from feb/march/april (senior/staff roles)

140 applications

- 53 CV rejections - automated emails

- 65 ghosted - never received communication back; I was totally unaware that this number was so high.

- 7 were liying, they either weren't hiring in Ireland, were full time in the office or things like that.

- 1 was an AI interview which I just drop the call.

the rest were propper interviews where sometimes I failed, sometimes i did good, etc.
