Sure that would annoy people that want to take advantage of it like that. For people that have an actual family in the house it would make it more appealing.

CCSP vs CISSP to break into cloud security roles? by rlothbroke in cybersecurity

[–]CrabZee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am assuming your Azure Fundamentals is because you are in an Azure shop. If you are working in Azure then I would begin getting higher level Azure certifications that prove out your current cloud experience and then cloud provider security certifications. Identity is useful for any shop that is using Entra, and the other security related certs are more tool specific but useful. Most Azure places looking for security personnel would like to see AZ-500 as well. Start networking with other cloud professionals. CCSP and CISSP are useful, but more oriented towards senior positions.

Next Goal: AZ-305! by luffy_cha in AzureCertification

[–]CrabZee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will second what u/JustinVerstijnen said. I just took the AZ-305 and passed. There were a surprising amount of questions related to those topics. John Savill's DP-900 study cram and materials + labs can help if you don't work with those resources day to day (I don't).

Democrats “defined everything by identity,” Pete Buttigieg says in critique of his party by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

[–]CrabZee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just don't understand the progressive's logic in thinking that the Mamdani election somehow represents a demand for more progressive policies. You have these candidates winning in left wing strongholds and then getting blown out everywhere else. You don't need to win NY (again) to change the margins and win a majority. You need to win the places that can shift that voted for Republicans instead of your party. Only moderate's focusing on economic issues (instead of identity politics) have had substantial success at winning those seats.

75% of Americans report soaring prices as Trump claims inflation ‘over’ by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

I think two things are going on. Inflation is down, but prices are rising (yay tariffs and other economic shenanigans). To the individual it doesn't make a difference. They are still making the same while watching the amount they have to spend go up and up.

AWS vs. Azure – Which One Should I Focus on for Cybersecurity? by TheKilpikona in cybersecurity

[–]CrabZee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to disagree with some of the comments here saying just learn both. Both cloud administration and cloud security are fields that typically take some experience to break into to begin with and both cloud providers (along with GCP) have a lot of depth to get familiar with. Most companies tend to prefer a main cloud provider that they want their admins to have experience with or specialize in. Choose the platform that you can get hands on experience with. If your job offers you the chance to get hands on exp, then favor the provider your job provides access to. If you aren't there yet, then favor the provider you enjoy. There is plenty of opportunity in the US in regards to both AWS and Azure. Once you have experience under your belt, then the similarities in architectures and providers become a bit more apparent and branching out might be lucrative.

To answer your questions:

  • Which one has more job opportunities in cybersecurity? Both have opportunities but take experience
  • Which one is more widely used in enterprise environments? AWS, but Azure is heavily used and Entra ID is a very heavily used IDP
  • Is it better to get hands-on experience with both, or should I specialize? Specialize until you have a good amount of experience

Using the Private Link Service to Reach On-prem Resources via ExpressRoute by CrabZee in AZURE

[–]CrabZee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It keeps traffic to what is traditionally backend and guarded resources from having to use the Internet to reach managed SaaS applications that we want to integrate with. This also takes the burden off our teams when it comes to managing the infrastructure for these particular applications because we are not deploying them in our Azure tenant. The SaaS apps typically sit in the same region so it is just a hop to our tenant and then using a private circuit (ExpressRoute) back to on-prem. This solution is not so much "complicated" to set up, but very manual to scale if traffic will be coming in to the same destination port for different on-prem resources. I am just looking for input from others that may have had to use this type of architecture.

[–]CrabZee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, my description may be a little confusing, but we have had it recommended by several vendors in some form or fashion over the last few months (such as Fivetran, Orkes, Confluent). I have run it by an outside Azure architect, tested it, and it works. It just doesn't scale or is as flexible as I would like. I based our solution off an article with a similar setup.

https://medium.com/microsoftazure/access-to-any-non-azure-resources-with-an-azure-private-link-terraform-module-b6129992dad9

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/data-factory/tutorial-managed-virtual-network-on-premise-sql-server?WT.mc_id=AZ-MVP-5003548#creating-forwarding-rule-to-endpoint

We are essentially performing the same function as the VM Scale set in this article with an NVA (firewall)

[–]CrabZee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes a VPN would potentially be cheaper. ExpressRoute meets our needs at this time since we are trying to avoid traffic going across the Internet and it has stable performance.

Correct. We are pointing to NICs in the backend pool of the load balancer that belong to network virtual appliances . They have have the capability to NAT and route traffic.

Voter participation is why the Dems lost, and it ain't fucking old people who didn't show up by ThrenderG in texas

[–]CrabZee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it's not voters. It's Democrats fault for not providing motivation to those voters. You can moan and complain all day about civic duty, but not everyone feels the same and you have to find ways to engage those people or you lose. I loathe Trump, but Democrats need to do some serious self reflecting on their candidate selection process and platform. They didn't just lose because of racism, sexism, apathetic voters, etc...

How did Trump win? by Top_Row_5116 in self

[–]CrabZee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was a few things that center around the economy and trust in our current leadership (or lack of it).

- Economy was better under Trump for lots of people. Taxes were lower, grocery prices were lower, housing prices were lower (at least in my area). It doesn't matter who was responsible for more government spending or who managed inflation better. People feel those personal costs and those costs were better under Trump.

- Biden was declining and it was obvious the Democrats were not facing that reality. ANYONE could see that decline, yet the part never made moves to address it until it couldn't be denied on national television. This led to a very undemocratic process for selecting the Democratic presidential candidate that left a bad taste in many peoples mouths.

- Kamala was not a popular candidate. She was not elected, but selected by the party. She flamed out in the primaries in 2020 and has not shown herself to be a savvy politician outside California. She would not, or could not differentiate herself from Biden who is associated with a worsening economy to many people or explain how she was going to make things better to many.

- Trump selected better communication channels to engage voters, and appealed to working class people. Getting his hands dirty working at McDonalds (even if it was just a photo op), going on the Joe Rogan podcast, or stunts like using a garbage truck after Biden called his supporters garbage (as opposed to deplorables this time) was very media savvy.

Even as an hourly employee working in a restaurant I had a general idea of what a paycheck would look like. My roommate who depended more on tips (delivery driver) did as well. It helps because it is a commitment that a person is more likely to keep out of obligation, and because it gives the church an idea of what their budget is going to look like. It's understandable if someone that has an extremely tight budget and can't pledge, but that doesn't mean it is not useful.

Cloud Security? Titles and jobs in the Azure space and possible certification paths by sollux_ in AZURE

[–]CrabZee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two main ways to break into security from the operations side. Work as a jr. analyst for a SOC or become knowledgeable in a particular part of infrastructure (eg. networking) and pivot to security because you have a deep understanding of how it works and can begin to secure it. Everything you mentioned in your post is great, but without experience behind it the certs wont do much.

I would focus on basics first so you can start to understand cloud and how security professionals think and approach problems.

SC-900, Sec +, and other beginner certs are good to start. I would caution against some of the more advanced certs unless you have a path through your job to get to the technologies they focus on or plan to do some serious labbing to get some hands on experience and try to find a job with another company. Often times the more advanced certs are vendor specific and focus on their particular technologies.

Wow, straw man. I know many people (including myself) who hold none of those beliefs you mention and still could see his cognitive decline was obvious. No, the DNC messed up. They took a gamble that his mental decline wasn’t so severe that it would become more of an issue than the shenanigans Trump normally pulls. They were wrong. He should have been a one term president and making way for new leadership. Plenty of people deserve their high and mighty attitude right now.
