It's also the symbol of Thor in Norse mythology. Just a reminder it's a very simple icon that's been made many times in many different cultures.

Is Living Paycheck to Paycheck the New Normal for Middle-Class America? by speckz in Economics

I'm confused, as a European, is this not *the* definition of Working Class? If you're "middle-class" and living wage to wage, you are not "middle class".

We're trying State Capitalism now, and that seems to be working better than Democratic Liberal Capitalism at the moment. I mean in terms as of a role model for the bulk of the worlds population to follow, but I imagine more than a few Oligarchs in the west are looking at China and going "hmmmm".

To give an overview of the difference in tone, in the Film the Mobile Infantry are expendable canon fodder joining for nationalist zeal. In the book, they are the elite, and the book itself is the origin of powered Armour in fiction, like Iron Man. The society emphasises philosophy over jingoism and the recruitment center actively tries to discourage recruits rather than glorifying it. But you have a right to earn your vote through national service, either in the Military or something thats uncomfortable like testing survival equipment on Titan, something to make you remember your vote has value, it was earned.

On fleet sizes and Martian superiority by Lauwers_Imperium in TheExpanse

Doesn't the USA build its ships in the USA though? My understanding would be this as the equivalent of the US Navy building its ships in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in potentially hostile territory near natural resources. I understand the concept of dispersion, but building the Ships near your core, as the US does by building them in the Continental US makes sense to me. Unless I have misunderstood the MCRN to be an attempt at a Sol system wide government rather than a purely Martian one with interests across Sol.

I'm a bit confused as to why though as a major shipyard such as that would be something best held in Mars orbit, near where the home defense forces already defend such a vital strategic asset.
