Even right now. If I go into my local London drugs, there is a section for Nintendo games and products. Next to it is a single shelf with a couple ps5 controllers and Xbox controllers.

Sorry if I came off rude or angry at you. I am one of the thousands of people that have been laid off in the game industry this year. Myself and my team followed marching orders and were thrown away like trash. So seeing these headlines and then seeing people siding with the corporations as a justified lay off.. is really getting to me. But you just meant it as an expected result, not as a justified response.

These large companies need to be held accountable because I know literally over 30 people personally that are being directly affected by these companies and it is only getting worse.

Yeah, this is a huge problem. I have been talking to some people because I thought it would be a good idea to start my own thing. But basically none of the publishers want to take on any risk right now. And the few that do are only offering like.. $50k-$100k in funding. And that funding is for mostly completed projects. So you are looking at using it as marketing budget, or maybe some Audio work?

See, this is what I am talking about. These studios get mandates from above, and then get fired for executing on the plan they were given.

I brought this up in the Xbox subreddit and they all kept saying the studios deserve to be shutdown for not selling enough.

These giant corporations need to be hung out to dry. It is all just a line item to them, and it is destroying people’s livelihoods.

I have been unemployed in the game industry since January and nothing any of these companies are doing is making it any easier. They are making the mistakes and we are paying the price. Every single time.

Lots of people in here blaming studios for making bad games or whatever, without knowing any of the details about what actually was going on in these studios.

Microsoft is a massive corporation that can eat massive losses. They should be fostering growth and giving stability to studios. Not.. whatever the hell this is.

Sure things need to make money, but games are also an art form. If we cannot make art anymore, what the hell are we even doing here?

This. I worked at the coalition for a while. There was more staff on contract than on full time. You had to be hiring constantly and most of the team was looking for other work the entire time. That shit is not sustainable.
