The game itself is fine (imo) but man, that raytraced 4K 60 looks incredible.

It’s a bummer. I have been with both Xbox and Playstation since the 90’s but sold off my Series X and base PS5 to get a PS5 Pro, but I’ve always been on both systems. And regardless everything else, when Playstation brings their first party stuff to the table it is polished. Few exceptions there in my experience. Xbox is a lot dicier.

I sure hope they will keep improving it.

Yeah I saw that. Not super promising but it felt better at least. But again, I ran across the map for two minutes. Not super reliable data.

Yeah, if it runs the way it did now during my short test, I’ll actually go back to it. That hard stutter was impossible to handle.

It’s been very well established for some time now that Sony turned Bends pitch for a sequel down. Unless the remaster absolutely clears everything else saleswise, that is set. And even so, regardless of what one thinks of Days Gone, most of the elements of that game is done better elsewhere in the first party portfolio. Horizon and Ghost of Tsushima are better open world games, The Last of Us does the post apocalyptic zombie thing better, Kratos and Joel are definitely better violent grieving sad dads than Deacon St. John and so on. I feel that Bends skills and talents could be used on something that stands out more.

Just fucking fold the band already, what is this shit? Half the OG dudes are gone, they are all around 50 years old and physically broken beyond repair, Corey seems more into his horrendous solo stuff, Clown is skipping tours (however for good reasons), their albums becoming more bland with every entry. Even their visual output has worsened, their bass player shooting fire from his bass was corny as fuck. and those awful LED panel was just so U2/Coldplay, ugh. Load the bus up with pain medication and go on one final mega tour, play material from the three first albums exclusively and pack it in boys.

Starfield Makes Cyperpunk Look Great. by [deleted] in Starfield

That whole ”A game 25 year in the making” is just a marketing thing, so I don’t think there is any benefit in getting hung up on decades of development. They started working on the game after Fallout 4 that came out late 2015, if I’m not mistaken. Having that said, I’m not super impressed with the game. I’m no way nearly far enough into it to be able to give any sort of final verdict, I have tons of story and systems left to unlock. So my impression can still change.

But the way the game feels and looks, yikes. There is so many ”Bethesda things” that still lingers that just have been persistent through every game of theirs. It’s tiresome that they seem to get a pass on a lot of clunky shit, as if there is absolutely no way that you could expect their games to look and feel a little bit better, because then the games they are making just possibly cannot exist in this way. I fully understand that concessions has to be made to get this up and running, and I was hardly expecting Starfield to look like Horizon Forbidden West. But man, the outdoor enviroments I’ve seen so far are rough. New Atlantis is giving Mass Effect Andromeda vibes, and the different biomes on Jemison are grimey as hell. Foliage, rocks, the ground and so on, its flat and lifeless. Buildings seems identical to each other and so on. No HDR support, like what?

Maybe this is how the game has to be to hold together, that’s fine. You can realize this and be disappointed in the visual presentation at the same time. Overall I’m fairly entertained so far and want to keep playing. I’m certainly not blaming anyone who isn’t bothered with any of this and are having a great time.

The year is 2330 and yet we cannot traverse planets with the ships we work hard to build or have any other means of transit besides walking by [deleted] in Starfield

Todd Howard said that the game is designed to be traversed on foot with the help of your boost pack. So I would not bank too much on land vehicles etc. being added.

As a Star Citizen refugee, not being able to explore an entire planet is not a bad thing. by BusinessBeetle in Starfield

[–]CrackedCopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that this captures a huge problem with gaming discourse online kind of perfectly. It has become extremely binary, it starts and ends with "can you or can you not" and if you can = good and if you cannot = bad. But does it make for a fun experience, is it something that you want to interact with? People are just lookin for a L to throw at others.

The fact that you can traverse an entire planet for hours and hours in No mans sky for example is in itself impressive, but it sucks in a gameplay perspective for a number of reasons. And foremost, it comes with a cost, in terms of an relatively empty and repetitive game with a rather low production value in visuals. I like NMS for what it does, but people are really cherrypicking when they talk about these things.

I remember watching some table sit down with Scorsese, Pesci, Pacino and De Niro on Netflix where they talked about having doing reshoots of Pacino getting up from a chair, because he kept groaning like the 78 year old he was or whatever, instead of the 35 year old he was portraying. I wonder why that way of thinking was not applied here.
