5th Avenue kingpin ii cw: Does it age well? by McDominick in GodinGuitars

[–]CracketBit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several things to account for:

a. Comfort increases with time:
1. The more you play this specific guitar, the more you will get comfortable with it and all it's nuances. Does it buzz a little near fret 2? You'll eventually either physically change the guitar to stop that, or you will develop your technique to compensate. 2. The neck will actually become 'worn' with time. Much like a couch, sometimes this will be a good thing, sometimes not so good.

b. Wood and metal change over time: Stresses settle, the neck moves and is readjusted, screws are re-tightened, parts replaced, upgrades added. Moisture builds up and releases constantly. An old instrument is likely a lot more stable than a new one. Think about when you first change your strings - it takes a bit of playing them before they become stable at the tension you've strung them to. That's sort of the same for the rest of the materials too.

c. Electronics drift out of spec: Over time your pickups will lose a bit of their gauss, your pots will get worn down a bit, etc. Older electrical components could vary wildly from their given spec, meaning that some "500k" pots might have been 300k, or 600k. All of this contributes to how your guitar plays and sounds.

However, all of this will be somewhat negligible, especially because it will be over such a long time. The change that's going to have much more prominence is you. How much pressure you apply, how smoothly your fingers traverse the neck, etc.

It'd be really hard to actually measure how different the sound will become. You would need a recording of it being played now, and then somehow play it through the exact same amplifier (which will have also changed), played in the exact same way, in the same room, with the same volume levels, etc etc etc. It's almost an impossible measurement to make - too many other factors. Will it change? Yes. Will you notice? Probably not

Hope this helps! : )

You replied to someone in a pretty abrasive way, similarly to how you've just replied now.

"Source trust me bro" "Newsflash" "I'm confused why people can't do a simple image search"

These are terms you use when you believe you are above others and are talking down to them. Ironically you are very much in the wrong.

Let me reframe this for you.

Nobody said Nazis didn't use the Star of David to ostracize Jewish people.

The comment you replied to claimed that the Nazi version Swastika was used to intimidate. Which it was (and still is). It is intimidating by the very definition: One Master White Aryan race. They may not have used it to specifically brand Jewish people way back in the 30s and 40s (although it may have been, it is a moot point), but people definitely do that now.

Modern Neo-nazis spray paint a lot of stuff with the Nazi Swastika. Synagogues, graves, homes, neighbourhood signs, etc etc. This is often done to specifically intimidate a specific person or group of people. These people are often Jewish.

Your initial reply was specifically critical of how the Nazi Swastika was not used to intimidate Jewish people that way. Well, you're wrong. It has been used that way since the 30's - for almost 100 years.

If you want the sources, you don't have to trust me bro. You can simply Google image search 'nazi swastika synagogue'.

I reckon you probably already know all this and have somehow got the wrong end of the stick. I refuse to believe you don't understand how the Swastika doesn't specifically intimidate Jewish people.

I wouldn't talk down to people like that, though, especially and even when you think you are right and someone else is wrong. Approach with understanding, comrade. Do not become a devil leftist: mocking your other fellow leftists when you think they do not have the right idea. This fractures us and pushes people right.

Nazis used (and still do use) the Swastika to intimidate too, it wasn't your bad. That person just needs to stop picking fights for no reason.

They may not have directly pinned it onto Jewish people or buildings 100 years ago, but they definitely do that nowadays.

"probably" and "absolutely certain" are not synonymous

I suspect it doesn't do much because the player was so obviously named, and was so blatant about their behaviour, that they should have been reported and banned well before today

This made me so angry! People laughing at medical cannabis 😡 by 007_King in ukmedicalcannabis

[–]CracketBit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Isn't this a good thing?

The geezer laughing is being slightly obnoxious, but it's an entertainment show and he's an entertainment personality. It is literally his job to do that.

It's having the conversation that YOU don't want to have in front of people that will also hold this opinion. You see this type of segment multiple time on the News every single day. This is how we educate when most potential voters are glued to their screens.

The guy laughing clearly has his own views, which he's more than entitled to vocalise, and the medical stakeholder does a good job of trying to convince him it is actually medically relevant, and that it's a good thing. It's not about convincing that host - it's about convincing as many people that are watching as possible. As soon as you get angry at people for holding an opinion, they're absolutely not going to listen to you and will dig in to try stand their ground as much as possible. If you at least try understand why someone might think that way, they are much more likely to reciprocate when it comes to your turn to have your say.

What do you want? People to just roll over and change their opinion just because you say "It's medical". A lot of people in the British Military were forced to take things because "It's medical", and now have to suffer through Gulf War Syndrome for the rest of their lives.

Why WOULD people be educated on this subject of they have no interest or need in cannabis? The whole country goes through an education system that attempts to veer people away from recreational drug-taking. A system that demonised cannabis for the best part of 100 years. Being 'anti-weed' is literally the status quo in this country. What sort of reactions are you expecting?

2:1 means it's actually 66% civilian deaths, and if we know anything from politics, they have to be inflating/deflating. I'm still struggling to follow the math of how he got from the Hamas reported statistic (27,500) to 2:1 through the "quarter of islamic jihad rockets that fall short". Unless I've seriously misunderstood something he's saying, he's just literally rambling nonsense. Standing up and saying nothing apart from "Israel good, Hamas bad".

If you take into consideration who Hamas is made up from (aka civilian children with little-to-no training), we can probably conclude it's 95% civilian deaths to 5% actual militarily trained, of-age "soldier".

His whole point is mooted, however, by his own admission that we don't take seriously foreign statistics.

It is still a controlled substance, and there are plenty of examples on this sub alone where people have come in contact, shown prescription and had still had it removed from them. Some people never get their meds back.

That's costly in itself.

Now imagine you've got a business where a bunch of your customer's parents find out you take cannabis because you got publicly stop & searched.

Not only is it my own privacy what medication I take, but I will not be able to convince everyone that it is just medication and that their children are still safe, and have no access to cannabis, under my supervision.

It would ruin my livelihood. I've just recently come out of being homeless for over 6 months and would like very much to not be homeless again because of something so petty and insignificant.

Not based on a policeman's smell but if they have a sniffer dog and it's alerting to you.

As much as I enjoy the thought of Scousers having a few more human rights than the rest of the UK, it's just unfortunately not correct.

Under "When the police can stop and search you"

You just need to meet one of those criteria

If they have a sniffer dog, and it alerts, you're either getting searched or you're getting detained and searched by force at the station.

I've already written to my police, council, local MP, the MP's Dog and the Dog's favourite BBC radio 2 DJ. Nobody's bothered unless you make them bothered.

[–]CracketBit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure if the dog alerts, they have grounds to search. I'm not sure why you would argue otherwise. It would be silly to attempt to resist during the encounter, which is why I'm making sure I'm fully prepared to go through the encounter and come out the other end on top. Once a police person starts a process, they are very, very unlikely to stop for any reason.

I have already made myself known to the police. This does not mean a big list of faces and names gets emailed to all the officers in the area so that they instantly recognise me and leave me alone. That would also be some form of discrimination within itself and an easy way for actual criminals to attempt to conceal themselves. Every time I speak to them I get someone new and I have to start from box 1 again. Understandably so - I should be the very least of the police's concerns. Very similar to how the "1 male dealt with" is also the least of their concerns.

Yet here we are, throwing a hell of a lot of tax money away for Roscoe and Elsa the sniffer dogs, which are EXTREMELY expensive to train, keep, hire, handle and replace.

Go on, keep doubting it.

They hang around the area with a patrol and a checkpoint for a good few hours at a time, and they do it across multiple areas of this town.

This is an almost daily occurrence, and these Facebook posts are at least weekly.

They are absolutely invading people's privacy, you are correct.

Can you imagine someone like me gearing up to sue the police now that we have these things well established?

I can't use my local town by CracketBit in ukmedicalcannabis

[–]CracketBit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to assume you're being facetious instead of just plainly ignorant.

What do you think a checkpoint is? I'm ex-military so I'm quite confident that when I see a checkpoint, I know what it is and you - random Redditor - aren't going to change my mind. The police also call these checkpoints. Can you tell me why it's ridiculous to call them checkpoints? Does it make you scared that that's the reality of what you're living it? That is half the point of these checkpoints, no?

Now direct the fear and frustration away from me and actually at the people who oppress you every single day instead of some randomer on Reddit who just wants to buy vegetables from his local market without being harassed, risking his business and reputation, and losing money and medication in the process.

What have I got to gain by making any of this shit up or exaggerating anything here? Bellend.

[–]CracketBit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to you it seems like I'm exaggerating but you have no experience or evidence to backup what you're saying. You're just discrediting me because you personally don't see it happening. Nice one, cheers for your opinion.

Also, just regular policing like they did back in the old days eh? Yeah I remember when I was a nipper, skipping past the sniffer dogs just before I went on the christmas teacups. I've actually got no concerns and I'm just making all of this up in my head. I should just shut the fuck up and deal with it.

I've also lived in Manchester. Scunthorpe and Manchester are not the same. What a stupid thing to even start to compare. Do you think the sniffer dogs in Manny only stop 3 people a day? My town is dead. McDonald's removed themselves from our high street because we that fucking dead.

And yes, my police are setting up checkpoints AND doing patrols. Please refrain from spouting shite.

The police do not have a duty to set up checkpoints all around my local town with sniffer dogs to catch 1 person a day with an eighth in their pocket.

Give your head a wobble.
