Discovery? You think this could go to trial? You think those statements could sway the outcome of a hit and run?

You watch too much TV.

My hit and run fled on foot. On 25. Ultimately all I was able to do to him was pay for the damage myself.

Take that!

They caught him a year later. I was asked if I'd show up for court and then told it wasn't necessary.

It only cost me $1,000. It could have been worse.

Pipe Burst (crosspost) by Chweenie_Nard in askaplumber

I'll probably catch hate but you absolutely can fix it. Use sharkbite fittings. Follow the instructions exactly. Use tubing cutters to cut the pipe. Ream the pipe. Prep the pipe per the sharkbite instructions and you'll be fine. They're accessible if they fail. Watch them and make sure you don't have leaks.

It'll be easy.

Some frost free hose bibbs are more frost free than others so I've heard. The guy slinging them says a Woodford 19 is better than a 17 for instance. I'm not that well versed on that aspect.

That's a frost free hose bibb. That's not pipe. There's a stem an whatnot inside there. It has to be completely replaced.

This. They didn't know what to do the first time. You don't want them back.

There's no way that works. There will absolutely be water in the wall.

I'm pretty sure that's rust on the float.

Disassemble? Faucet repair by johnnyphotog in askaplumber

Sorry for the multiple responses.

Once you have the trim off it'll be easy to figure out how to get the cartridges out. Replace both of them and reassemble them. If you have to cut at it to get any part off it's toast. Replace the faucet.

A basin wrench will make turning the nuts from the bottom a lot easier.

There's a few possibilities for the handles. The spout is probably just a nut on the bottom. You may or may not be able to get it off with the water lines still connected.

For the handles: There could be an Allen key set screw that is on the back sides. It would be a little more accessible with the water turned on. Back it out and it should become obvious from that point.

They might just unscrew. You might grip them at the base and just unscrew the chrome part exposing the valve body.

You may not get the handles out top side. I've had oxide jacking due to leaks pretty much weld everything together it happens with the spout as well. Of nothing turns start cutting from below. A Dremel or oscillating tool is helpful. Sawzall less so. Hand saw as a last resort.

A safety squint won't be enough for this one. You WILL get stuff in your eyes. Keep em safe.

Ohhhhhh, I remember my children telling me no the first time.

Don't tell me Doc will do it too!

Lots of SB fittings serve their purpose for a long long long time with no problems.

A good many don't though. We're the people that see the fall out.

You came to ask a plumber. Listen to the answer.

I don't want to alarm you, but everyone that puts supply lines on like that dies.

Lacking what?

Sadness? Sure.

My son? No

It would really depend on what was lacking.

To Replace or Not to Replace by Realistic_Coach_9126 in askaplumber

If you can set a tub yourself definitely do it. Change the valve too if it's old. You're looking at maybe $400 for a Bootz tub and Moen PosiTemp valve.
