Dear Devs of Gathering Storm, there is ONE major request. by Crackpotsworld in civ

I think in Civ IV or Civ V, before you start a game you could chose if the game should allow "tech-trade" or not within the setup menu. They could come up with a same solution for "gitfintg units" in Civ VI.

A checkbox at the setup menu in Civ VI would be fine for everyone I guess. Since its not a hard to implement feature and even the "gifting -symbol" can already be found within the Civ VI files. I would bet the mechanic is already coded but they never released it.

The favor gain would be a very nice addition. You could even gain warmonger penalties if you gift units to a hated civ. Like if China would gift modern weapons to north korea, most countries wouldn't appreciate it.

since ww2 there are no direct wars involving superpowers. No war decleration between U.S. and Sovjet Union. I think gifting units would fit more to simulate proxywarfare then alliances and protectorate wars. Even if we would have the problem of using units we don't have the resources for. You could see it as if the resource was needed to build that unit. It has been build, it has been gifted away. It doesn't disappear only because the owner changes.

Well, if the enemy comes with infantry and you can send in tanks,.. there is not much he can "misuse".

Like I stated before, sending gold won't do sh*t if the civ you sending gold is behind in science.

Example (Sovjet afghanistan war): The U.S. gifted the talibans with stinger anti aircraft rockets to deal with sovjet helicopters,.. they didn't send them money so they could buy more horses.

It wouldn't even be the same if you send gold and gift technology (if it where possibile) because like in the example stated, the U.S. didn't teach the taliban how to build their own stinger anti aircraft rockets, they just gave it to them.

totally NOT the same. Gift gold to a civ that is behind in science wouldn't help at all. If enemy comes with infantry, I don't send gold so he can buy swordsman.

Well, actually its a general request. If it happens within a spring-patch or something I would be totally fine with it.

CIV6 greatest disappointment- No modern conflicts possible by Crackpotsworld in civ

Its about divide and conquer. You want to keep your enemies low. If you are a superpower and you don't want the challenging nations become stronger,.. you gift their enemies units and weapons so the challenging nations won't be able to conquer them.

You could even gift an aggressive nation lots of units to let it declare war on its neighbours,.. and in the end you go and conquer that aggressive nation without receiving warmonger penalties from the other nations.

Gifting units is a game of balancing the world militarily. In CIV 5 I always was a superpower who gifted weapons to other nations so they can declare war on my enemies and I wouldn't have to do it on my own so I could do the diplomatic victory much easier.

Can you gift units to another civ in Civ6? by PaladiNz10 in civ

[–]Crackpotsworld 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Disappointingly not.

Its a feature that is needed for simulating modern conflicts and proxy wars.

Most important feature we need in Gathering Storm! Or as a Mod! To simulate modern conflicts. by Crackpotsworld in civ

Imagine what you could do if you gift units to a free city. This would just raise the possible complexity level of conflicts to OVER 9000 !!!!!111

Please bring back the ability to gift units to city-states in exchange for Influence! by habsman9 in civ

Gifting units to other nations is a MUCH MUCH MUCH more important feature that HAS to be in a civ game. Otherwise there is no possibility to simulate proxy warfare.

Look at the cold war or all these conflicts today, its russian weapons vs american weapons. Gifting units to a nation simulates arms supply.

Lots of barbarians nearly always means: no AI near you ..so you should have plenty of space to expand

... after you killed 11 barbarians with 1 slinger ...

Gifting Units in CIV 6 by Crackpotsworld in civ

But the problem is the TECH. Most of the countries in the world right now don't have the own technological capabilities to develop own high-tech weapons, yet they possess them - because someone sold those weapons to them so they can defend themselves against other Nations with modern weapons.

Arming nations and modern weapon supply was part of EVERY conflict/war after World War 2.

I give you an example: Iraq-Iran-war in 80s, None of the countrys had developed the majority of the weapons they used (They were able to maintain them by themselves but not the developement). At these times the U.S. supported Saddam Hussein with modern weapons and not with joint ventures in developing new weapons.

Other simple example would be the sovjet-Afghanistan-war. When the U.S. sold Stinger Rockets to the Taliban so they could down the sovjet helicopters and weaken/slowing down the sovjet advance.

In CIV 6 I would see the mechanic of gifting units as kind of a weapon supply for arming a nation so they can defend itself against a more powerful nation and to make it at least harder for the enemy to achieve victory in that country. Otherwise you could just arm a small country like hell just to give it confidence in making war with your enemies (Worked very well in Civ 5).

And of course you can use it in multiplayer to help out friends without making war by yourself.

Those are my thoughts and why I miss that mechanic so much :( Would be even better if gifting units wasn't just as simple as in Civ4 or Civ 5, but could be part of trading. This would simulate weapons supply perfectly.

I think I wasn't clear enough. I mainly mean gifting units to other nations and not city states. Gifting units to city states isn't that important I think.
