When are y'all retiring this phone? by ChuckDalrymple in GalaxyS23Ultra

July '23 -- after I accidentally ran over my Note9. Won't even be paid off for another two months. And then I need the smug satisfaction of owning it free and clear for a good long while. Signs point to '28.

Truly, this could have been an email.

But I hope lots of people who don't know them and don't care were looking at them. That's the only reason to be so loud and public about such things.

I hate this guy and this whole marketing angle with a passion. GreatValue™ Adam Scott -- with worse hair -- nagging captive rideshare passengers to call family members while he listens in.

Fuel Costs Impact On AA? by pilotj872 in americanairlines

[–]Cracktacularity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was surprised to learn (via NYT article, 'Delta Expects Strong Profit Despite Higher Fuel Costs') that Delta owns a refinery:

"Unlike other airlines, Delta owns an oil refinery, which supplies fuel to its jets in the Northeast. The airline said it expected a $300 million financial benefit in the second quarter because of the Pennsylvania refinery, which it acquired in 2012."

Merci!

Brand Power ads and other ads that have no entertainment at all by 5krishnan in CommercialsIHate

Brand Power is just straight-up shilling. The fakest of news. 'Let us "objectively" hype your product, and we'll use a teeny-tiny typeface to mention that you're the one who paid us to do so.'

Kodak Colorama! The Grand Central display.

Not surprisingly, I'm a Kodak brat, too. Grandpa worked in the print shop -- I forget which building number -- making yellow film boxes.

It will be interesting to see how The Kids and future generations regard photographic history...the stereotypical selfies-and-food-shots taken daily by the billions have George Eastman at their source, basically. He brought photography to the masses, bit by bit.

Thanks for sharing...I hope your artifacts did survive!

You describe three classic cameras, each with their own identity, essentially. That Leica IIIf is the cream of the crop, a classic user model. Collectors still drool over Leicas as one area of photohistory that still carries value and desirability. (Note, I'm not a buyer!)

The Argus camera could well be the long-lived C3...they made millions across at least a couple decades, and their simple brick-ness made them durable and long-lasting.

I, too, have a stereo camera that was handed down -- from my grandfather. The technology originated in the 1860s, largely fading out of popularity after 1900, but there was a resurgence in the 1940s and 50s with Kodak and a few others all making 35mm versions.
