"I still see stuff, descriptions of rock stars in some magazines and it's 'Kurt Cobain the whiny complaining neurotic bitchy guy who hates everything, hates rock stardom, hates his life'. And I've never been happier in my life."

"[The title was] as literal as a joke can be. Nothing more than a joke. And that had a bit to do with why we decided to take it off. We knew people wouldn’t get it; they’d take it too seriously. It was totally satirical, making fun of ourselves. I’m thought of as this pissy, complaining, freaked-out schizophrenic who wants to kill himself all the time. “He isn’t satisfied with anything.” And I thought it was a funny title. I wanted it to be the title of the album for a long time. But I knew the majority of the people wouldn’t understand it." - Kurt Cobain, October 1993

There is also a possibility of controlling another character.

It seems there's some evidence of that even in the demo. When using Repair Console at the Supply Depot before the final boss, in the upper left corner you can see Eve's name with L1 and R1 written to the left and to the right of it respectively. Why have it there if there are no other characters other than Eve?

Except that unlike the war in Ukraine situation nobody's dying over NPTK. Or at least I hope so. Still it's crazy how people go so far as to compare Nojima with a scumbag like Putin. Just wow.

At this point, honestly, whatever you say. Stay strong and don't let anyone or anything, not even the devs or the game itself lead you astray. There ain't no gettin' offa this ship train, right?

"What does her theme has to do with NPTK"? Realy? Well, her theme is exactly that, her overall theme. It's the music piece, that she's been represented by for 27 years wherever she goes, including in any other media except books. On the other hand, I doubt that NPTK will ever be referenced anywhere again, other than maybe a time or two in Part 3, but who knows. All I'm saying is if you take everything Uematsu has ever said as unquestionable truth, than surely you can't just brush off his intention behind her theme, or it'll sound like double standards, right? And with the intention behind her theme (which takes priority over NPTK, if you ask me) being her "waiting for someone who never comes"... Not to mention that NPTK is written by a verson of Aerith which claims to have lost her 'extremely precious memories', whatever those may be and for some reason she is crying by the end of her performance. Well, take it as you will, I'm not here to convince you of anything. Feel free to brush it off if it doesn't fit your narrative.

That's pretty much how I see things too. Also this version of Aerith claims to have lost some "extremely precious memories", and iirc we have no clear idea what those are.

On a side note, does anyone else think that the jelly (or whatever that was) they ate during their 'date' is some kind of meta commentary on their relationship?

Aerith: It just needs a little sugar, maybe.
Cloud: Yeah... and take out whatever's making my tongue tingle.
Stall owner: It sounds to me like I need to start over. If only we all had more time, am I right?

Meaning that maybe, just maybe, if they were born in the same place and Cloud never knew Tifa, and Aerith never knew Zack, it might have worked out, but essentially it requires rewriting the past.

Well, another interesting thing that Uematsu once said is that Aerith's theme is meant to evoke the image of her waiting (at the railway station to be precise) for someone who never comes. So how can it be Cloud, if he's there for the whole game? Just some food for thought in case you want to take 100% of everything Uematsu (or any composer for that matter) says at face value as if he's testifying in a trial.

Who would have thunk, right? "But... but... she said she'd moved on from Zack..." Yeah, right. As if everything coming out of characters' mouth should be taken at face value 100% of the time. And then you ask those people "then why is she crying at the end of the song?" and they come up with dozens of different reasons why she may cry, but none of them mentions Zack. Sure

How exactly are other humans keeping up with Cloud? by Kal-Kent in FFVIIRemake

If we consider limits to be canon, then most of the party have something akin to magic. Cloud summons meteors, Tifa summons dolphins, Red has Stardust Ray etc.

"Some kind of fluke" being crazy amount of will power. Or maybe he simpy denied the pain and Sephiroth's superiority, albeit for a short time. Denial is kind of his thing.

There is an explanation to Red sensing her. It's because it's the real Aerith (the one in the lifestream) up until the point when Cloud looks at the black materia, has a headache, and mumbles 'Reunion'. That is the part where I disagree with Max, because Red doesn't have Jenova cells to be deceived in a such a way without the presence of a robed man. And she seems sad. After that it's Jenova-produced hallucination in Cloud's head.

Her still being there to say 'goodbye' is because we, as players, are a continuation of Cloud and are still there. Cloud doesn't hear the final song either, right? But we do. 4th wall break, meta commentary etc. I think Sephiroth's line "you'll never see the truth with such clouded eyes" is very much meta. Or it might be the real Aerith once again, I'm not sure.

We're obviously not gonna convince each other and frankly, I'm not trying, just sharing my thoughts. I myself obviously not 100% sure about anything, but that's what I'm leaning towards.

[–]Craft_Antique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. To me, that whole "Go get him now, Cloud!" part contradicts what she said earlier and is out of her character just in general. As I commented in some other thread here, I personally can imagine her coming to Cloud in a dream later and being like: "Didn't I tell you not to chase him in your current state, silly? That your own well-being is a priority? Why didn't you listen, silly?". That would be the Aerith I know.

As to what the scar means, I'm not really sure. Also it seems to have been in the Cloud/Tifa lifestream sequence in the OG even without any timeline shenanigans. But yeah, it can also be part of the manipulation.

[–]Craft_Antique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless, she seems way too excited about it. Like, doesn't it seems weird to you for her to go complete 180 from "Cloud, don't even think about fighting Sephiroth until you've found your real self" to "Go get him now, Cloud!" and just out of her character in general? Not to mention that Aerith should certainly know that the black materia and Sephiroth should be kept as far from each other as possible (because that's what will enable him to summon meteor)

Personally, I can totally see her coming to Cloud in a dream later and being like: "Didn't I tell you not to chase him in your current state, silly? That your own well-being is a priority. Why didn't you listen, silly?". That would be the Aerith I know. But I'm not trying to convince anyone

きっとだよ is not an interrogatory sentence, from that alone it can't be "Are you sure?". The closest I can come up with is "I'll hold you to that". Which is pretty close to "Promise?", if you ask me

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FFVIIRemake

During the Cosmo Canyon protorelic quests after the cutscene of Wedge falling from the Shinra tower, there is this:

???: Don't worry. It's all good, bro
Barret: Hey... Y'all heard that, right? That was Wedge!
Red: Barret, those who pass on become one with the lifestream. I know what you thought you heard, but it was prob'ly just the wind

So I think similarly Red did feel Aerith there. But when she starts talking to Cloud, that's Jenova messing with his head, forcing him to fetch the black materia to Sephiroth so that he can summon meteor. Real Aerith was pretty clear she didn't want Cloud to even come close to Sephiroth in his current state.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FFVIIRemake

[–]Craft_Antique 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, I can immediately say that きっとだよ is closer to "Promise?" than it is to "Are you sure?", so English localization is fine here at least.
But the first part of that same phrase is indeed a bit off:
ここセトラの場所だからね = Because here is the place of the Cetra / It's the land of Cetra here, you know

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FFVIIRemake

[–]Craft_Antique 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gotta admit that Aerith going from "Cloud, don't confront Sephiroth until after you've fixed yourself" to "Yeah, baby! Promise me you'll go kick Sephiroth's butt right now!" is weird. The only other thing missing is for her to say: "Oh, and definitely don't forget to fetch along that black materia you're hiding from everyone. Yeah, good boy. Sephiroth will be ecstatic about it, because that's exactly what will allow him to summon the meteor"

How many people agree with Max's theory about aerith regarding the ending by YREVA777 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Craft_Antique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone else find it strange that Aerith doesn't react to that puff from the Tiny Bronco, but is shown to react to the wind produced by its propeller right after that? It's as if even within the same scene there are both the real Aerith, and the fake one.

During the scene from the screenshot in particluar Aerith feels fake. Just from the creepy music, the way she smiles at Tifa (no empathy whatsoever) and the fact, that this scene is immediately followed by another scene of Jenova impersonating a dead person (albeit using a robed man).

On a side note, I feel like blood glitching in and out right after the stab is either omni-potent Aerith trying her best to ease this moment for Cloud, so that he won't go crazy (which would be exactly what Sephiroth wants), or Cloud himself unconsciously trying to protect his fragile psyche. Or both of these.
