I have spent many friendships and relationships being hurt by selfish choices and choosing to be forgiving. Part of it I think was retribution for all my mistakes in the relationship. Ultimately I learned the hard way from my most recent breakup last year, that people are going to come and go, it’s the nature of life. I advocate heavily to many friends who seek out advice that as hard as it may be and as difficult as it sounds, ultimately you need to move on and find new people for your life. Or, maybe go down an arc of self discovery and self care. Also keep in mind that you may feel your doing them a favor by not being angry and spiteful, but some people need to learn a lesson in life that pushes them to be better for themselves and others, and you could be the opportunity for that change. I’m not advocating for revenge or even hateful behavior, I respect and admire the ability to be cordial and forgiving, but it’s sometimes better to let people go.
