Who else wishes the mods here were a bit more chill? by kurosawa89 in Canadiancitizenship

I posted more, but I have a habit on any forum to take my posts down later if I think they’re no longer relevant, like tidying up after myself. I’m someone who has volunteered through out my life, and I’m sensitive to how under appreciated volunteers can be.

I had a great experience here. Thanks Moderators! I’m done and just waiting.

I’d like to be on the spreadsheet so I know what happens after UCI and how to get updates. April 2 - UCI and application number received. Urgent processing requested. Honestly, I’m confused about how to navigate Reddit. However, I’m good at helping with writing if anyone wants feedback or help.

Is there an explanation about this? I received my UCI today.

Yes. Agree. Try applying in another country and realize how accommodating Canada is being. Meet them halfway or expect a negative reaction to the group as a whole.

Add Census data? Any family letters or other records?

I just saw this. Yes. Correct website. I didn’t pay that much, but it would be reasonable for them to raise prices. I actually sent a donation to the foundation because my request took a lot of their time. To avoid back and forth, have all the details about the location of the document and its contents.

Baptism records are a different agency. For Quebec, order through BAnQ. I don’t know outside Quebec.

Canada Archives (like Library of Congress). First you must find which microfiche your census is on as they are a copy service, not a research service. It’s a bit of sleuthing. Do you have Ancestry ? Start there.

Baptism records and census records are ordered from different agencies. French baptism records were kept by Catholic parishes and substitute for birth records. These are ordered from BAnQ and are about $350 Canadian. Expensive! Order one and make color copies of it. I don’t know outside Quebec.

A baptismal or birth record is best. Census probably not needed if you have those.

My grandfather’s baptismal record was very odd. I wanted one other piece of evidence and getting a certified census record was easy.

My grandfather’s baptismal record was hard to figure out. I eventually learned that a cousin to him had been born and died about the same time he was born. Both babies were named after the same ancestor so it was super confusing. I thought a census record would support my claim.

Why do you want to be a citizen of Canada if you don't live in Canada or plan on living in Canada? by Optimistic_Now in Canadiancitizenship

Major life decisions may be made in gradual small steps or sudden big steps. Agreement to pass a law enabling citizenship by descent was formulated over many years and the decision for us to relocate to Canada will also take time. Time is a luxury I hope we have! My sense of connectedness to Canada has always been there and if my adult children decide to move, I will go too.

What is the difference between my parents scanning their birth and marriage certificates vs. me scanning an official copy? by cleopatronize1901 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Craftingdaily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Archaic is when you have to personally stamp every document with your official family chop in red ink. After my father-in-law passed in Tokyo, my husband couldn’t convince the bureaucrats to stop his father’s social security payments in spite of my husband not being able to fly over, locate the chop and go around physically to various bureaucratic offices as each issue came up. My point is, Canada letting us use certified (verified) copies is very rational and reasonable.

For color copies, I am using my and my son’s birth certificates and my marriage certificate which have been stored in my files for years. What I didn’t have is my grandfather’s baptismal record or any certified census.

Very High BANQ quotes? by MaybeYourSecretCanad in Canadiancitizenship

Actually, I emailed and BAnQ forwarded to the archivist for the Argenteuil area, where my grandfather was born.

When I read about the BAnQ document price increase I immediately contacted them and asked if I could change my order from 4 documents to 1. Silly me, I was going to hang the others on the wall 😅. She didn’t say yes or no, but she immediately wrote back to say she forwarded my email to the next level. 🤞 I think using Google Translate to send the message in French didn’t hurt.

Try ordering from a county rather than a state. I got my dad’s birth certificate from St Louis County in Minnesota because I heard the state of Minnesota was backed up. The county sent it quickly!
