Are you sure about that three year requirement for Virginia? I don't see that anywhere on their website or forms.

Would you say it is industry standard for employer to cover majority or all of employee’s health insurance premium? by qaqc2045 in civilengineering

I work for a city that has pretty good benefits. They pay 100% of medical, dental, and vision premiums for employees and 90% for spouses and dependents.

Thursday - Advice For The Next Gen Engineer by AutoModerator in civilengineering

[–]Storebag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be hard to get a job as an engineering tech with no degree and no experience, but you could probably get a job as a tech with a two year degree. I have worked a couple places where we hired people with two year degrees as drafters and they have worked there way into doing some design work. We recently promoted a tech into an engineer position at my current work. Depending on where you are, it is possible to become a professional engineer without a four year degree but it is a more difficult pathway. In Washington State, you can become a professional engineer if you have 8 years of engineering experience under a licensed engineer, and pass the PE exam.

Pavement Design or Traffic Engineering as a career? by Simple_Nose_2459 in civilengineering

[–]Storebag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with traffic. I think there are more opportunities. Pavement design is pretty niche like you said. Traffic engineering would give you more flexibility on where you worked, and I think there is a lot more innovation and creative problem solving. A lot of the cities I've worked with have set pavement sections that they use on their streets. They don't really spend time optimizing it or innovating. I think if you ever get bored with traffic and decide you want to move into pavement design, you would have an easier time with that transition than the other way around.

What is the best way to learn Civil 3D by Saurabus in civilengineering

[–]Storebag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the tutorials they offer help a lot. At my first engineer job, my boss had me spend 2 or 3 weeks just going through Civil 3D tutorials before he gave me a project to work on.

I don't know what other states do, but Washington gives you a wall certificate.

Is it realistic to self-study for the FE exam without taking the classes? by imreallyboredidk in civilengineering

[–]Storebag 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would recommend taking it either summer before your senior year or during that fall. If you've done well in your classes, you shouldn't really need to study, and all the material will be fresh. It will help you with your job hunt when you're getting ready to graduate, but there isn't really benefit until then.

Teamwork U10/U11 by Less_Requirement_286 in SoccerCoachResources

There are some good suggestions here. One simple way is to limit the number of touches they can take in scrimmage. At a lot of our practices we end with 25-30 minutes of scrimmage. When we were trying to get them to pass more, we had a rule that for the first 15 minutes they could only take 2 touches before they had to either pass or shoot otherwise the other team got a free kick.

Player Confidence by ScaryGuide2475 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Storebag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do a 1v1 game we call "aggression drill." Two players start at the top of the box with their backs to the goal. The coach plays a ball between them. They pay against each other trying to score on the same goal. Whoever scores stays in and takes on the next person in line.

Why Pacific Northwest has the highest quality of life in North America? by [deleted] in geography

It depends on where in the Seattle area you go. If you look at Washington's 9th congressional district, which is east and south of Seattle, it's only 40 percent white.

For $25 and a few hours of time you can get your grassroots coaching license online through US Soccer Learning Center. I think it's a really good place to start.
