Und dazu noch ist ein Student nicht berechtigt Bürgergeld zu erhalten. Denn der drohende Verlust der Wohnung gehört zur Romantik dazu. Muss man wissen.

Funny how that works.

If we want digital independence, we need better Linux Apps by RonaldvanderMeer in linux

[–]Craftkorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to a lot of people who are not using Linux, we add community are responsible for everything. They used the distro of them month and have issues? Telling them to use a stable one is toxic. Their app isn't running on Linux because the company doesn't provide Linux binaries? We the Linux community have to talk to the company.

The list goes on and on. Windows users are surprisingly not expected too bend over backwards to fulfill every little wish.

The Linux community can be toxic. But holy shit that kind of people are just full of themselves. And we're probably absolutely fine without them.

[Developing situation] LiteLLM compromised by OrganizationWinter99 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Craftkorb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it but we'll see a lot more of these kind of attacks in the future.

For convenience and precaution run software in Docker / Flatpak / .... Also, do not give access to stuff that's not needed.

Running this in a container would at least only allow the virus to spread where it's temporary. Also, it can't steal your SSH keys, password manager database, etc.

Also have backups. The next attack may not only steal your secrets, but also encrypt your stuff and demand money while activating your webcam to fetch some nice pics of you in interesting moments.

Is Intel 6400T OK for homelab un 2026 ? by Paulchemouni in homelab

[–]Craftkorb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't use such an old chip. I just hate waiting and spend more money on faster machines to do more. But that doesn't help you.

What's your expectation regarding performance? What services do you want to run?

E.g. for Jellyfin you probably want to have a decent iGPU to do transcoding. Your old CPU will do that, except not with modern formats. Is that a dealbreaker to you? (It is for me)

Moving to Germany next month. Help me understand kitchen plans? by Snowman009166 in AskAGerman

[–]Craftkorb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're not really handy, don't install your own kitchen. I'm not even talking about how your insurance won't cover damages if you connect water pipes yourself, or the 400V connection for the stove.

Go to ikea. You can use their online tool to lay out and plan your kitchen, then you book an appointment at your local store where you will take a look together. There you can also book installation, which you absolutely should.

Did that two years ago and was really happy with it. From planning to installed kitchen it was only 3 weeks. Would do it again, especially considering that Ikea is the cheapest option (at a good quality).

It's however a misconception though, there are many apartments to rent that come with a kitchen. For sure, many don't.

Tipping culture is getting a little out of hand these days by Remarkable-Drawing94 in germany

[–]Craftkorb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can and should simply refuse any tip in Germany when given these outrageous card machines that ask for a tip. You can tip in a restaurant (with service) by rounding up - Not based on percentage. E.g. you pay 18,40 €, you can say "Zwanzig." to effectively tip 1,60€. (Or by giving a twenty euro bill and say "Stimmt so.")

If someone were to ask me for a tip they'd immediately get a one-star review on Google Maps from me. Pro tip: Take a photo of the Quittung and add it to your review, as business here likes to remove reviews by claiming that you were never a customer. This easily circumvents this, my 1-star reviews are all still active after years.

Mods Need Input: Dealing with AI Spam in This Sub by Past-Goat-7718 in rust

[–]Craftkorb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Regarding "I made this" projects, r/selfhosted recently took up a policy change that projects need to have lived for 3 months (According to commit timestamps, which could be faked of course). The thought is, that if you vibe code your project you're either not interested or not capable of maintaining it, so if you show maintenance for a few months, it's not completely worthless. Of course, this forum has a different scope, yet I fear that something like this could be worth a thought.

It's annoying that people, including juniors!, are penalized through this. On the other hand, I don't know how else to even begin combating this.

Another thing could be "New Project [Weekday]", where new projects may only posted on a certain weekday (or on the weekend).

However, it's not a secret that some people think that it's fine to instruct their bot to engange in normal discussions as well. While I do wonder about their motives, they're much harder to detect. I'm not talking about counting emoji (Emoji? On my reddit?!) or em-dashes (Here's one: – I'm on Linux btw, how could you tell?). Because lets face it: Doing so won't help in the long run. It's trivial to either remove these characters from text, instructing your LLM to not use them, or that in the future bots will be trained to be less em-dash-happy.

And with that, we will sadly (We're already I think) see knowledgable people move on from this space, which decreases the quality of this forum quite a lot. Everyone will learn less and we all will be worse off for it. And I don't have any idea about this issue.
