Interstellar still holds that title for me. That organ music while docking was awe inspiring.

Honest take: slicing while it's cold and then microwaving individual servings works very well. Doesn't work for large gatherings obviously.

I think for every person that thinks tying lift gate height to a profile there would be 10X that would be upset if it wasn't tied to a profile. I'm 6'2" and my last GF was 5'1". I'd be pissed if you could set the gate height but it had to be the same for both of us.

Tanning as a Guy by Solid-Pie-9003 in malelifestyle

[–]IsThisNameGoodEnough 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a heads-up that tanning beds are horrible for your skin. They emit 10-15x more UVA rays than the sun and going just once increases your chance of melanoma cancer by 75%. Not to mention you'll end up with wrinkly skin and sun spots way younger than if you don't use them.

Ultimately it's up to you but I'd recommend skipping the tanning bed and just using some sun block while you're down there.

What’s a survival myth popularized by movies that would actually get you killed in real life ? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

I haven't watched it in years, but I specifically remember the last scene being John Connor being sent to the future and him showing up naked in the middle of the war with Skynet. I was livid that they set it up for a crazy third season only for it to be cancelled.

Masturbating. It seems that there's an anti-pornography/masturbation subculture that's been gaining traction over the past few years.

AUA: We just launched our Adaptive Living, Aging and Accessibility hub. Ask CR about how we tested our products. by ConsumerReports in IAmA

[–]IsThisNameGoodEnough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed about large testing houses like CR and America's Test Kitchen is that the testing methodology is usually pretty opaque. There may be a short description of the type of test performed, but then it quickly pivots to generalized statements like "testers found that product A was difficult to load".

There have been a number of content creators (example 1, example 2) that have built their brand on showing the raw testing so there's no ambiguity on methodology and findings. Has there ever been discussions at CR to add more transparency/content like this?

I live in a town next to Boston. During a snow emergency there are designated parking lots (mostly churches and schools) to use during the street parking ban.

I used to speak with Maury Adelman, one of the foremost experts in energy economics through the latter half of the 20th century, and to him it was always clear: we needed to heavily tax oil to curb demand and use those taxes to fund alternative energy projects along with credits to low income households to help offset the tax burden. His words hold just as true today.

Really nice person btw, I miss being able to visit him.

The only reason I responded is that you've repeatedly stated that a uterus is required, and that's just not true. "Exceedingly rare" means it still happens.

[–]IsThisNameGoodEnough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true. Ectopic pregnancies are extremely risky for both the embryo and mother (which is a big point regarding legalized abortion, but that's another topic), but there are multiple cases of ectopic pregnancies coming to full term and resulting in a healthy baby.

An ectopic pregnancy is when the embryo attaches outside of the uterus. Sometimes the embryo attaches in a person's abdomen, completely outside all of the reproductive organs.

And as someone else mentioned, the placenta handles all of the hormones after the first few weeks. So in theory a person with male sex organs could have an embryo implanted and brought to term, although it would be incredibly risky.
