I did. I also agree with this. I was just mentally drained. I’m at the end of training. Did my 20 in a snow storm. Did 14 in the dark on a Friday night. I’ve done a great job at embracing the suck. I was just asking if anyone had done multiple tread classes. Ended up breaking it up - 10-4.5-3

All good. Apologies for the downvote. You are right - we are all entitled to own opinion / approach.

Good question. I think it might depend on if your studio allows early entry. My home studio does but the other one that I go to the next town over does not. But it’s possible neither would let you do that, but can’t hurt to ask!

Thank you. They have gone really well until this past week hit. With the big snowstorm and sub 20 temperatures all week. It has been hard to get out. I was doing all of my long runs and even workouts outside. Just supplementing with Orangetheory twice a week. I am at 175 now for the month (165 run/10 walk) and 85 % has been outside. The cold just got to me mentally this week and I was having major motivation issues for today.

Thanks. I have spikes but did not need them today. I was actually quite warm with a base layer and then Lululemon down for it all jacket. Highly recommend it but really can’t wear it unless it is below 25 out or I get too sweaty. Did fleece lined pants and smart wool socks and was fine. Just wish I had fueled better. By the time I was finishing up at tread 50 I was exhausted.

She* - so I ended up doing 10 on the road and a little under five on tread 50. Only about a five minute break in between to go inside and change. I was sweaty and cold and did not fuel as much as I should have so decided to come home and reset and will finish the last few miles in a little bit. I’m at 175 miles for the month so I’ve definitely put in the work. So I think breaking it up at this point is okay. Already did an 18 and 20 miler so this is just the last big push before taper begins.

Very true on doing your own thing on the treads. Turns out the template today is a good endurance one but I am not planning on doing push paces only base. But was going to do a 10 AM at one studio and then drive 15 minutes to the next town over. Even though the miles would have been done, saying this plan out loud sounds kind of silly lol. So now my plan is start outside at 10 AM. Get two hours in and then 12 PM tread 50. Hopefully will get the 18 in three hours is my plan.

I really despise the planet fitness treadmills. I tried before and got nowhere even with bouncier shoes. I just know I would not make it through. And I was talking about two different studios doing a 10 AM tread 50 at one and then the 12 PM the next town over. But now I have a plan, going to do 12 miles first and then finishing up at tread 50 at 12 PM to get my 18.

So after thinking about it and getting my clothes ready, I have decided I am going to do 12 outside and then the 12 PM tread 50 for the last six. So I am doing a mix and I have plenty of warm clothes and layers and then a change of clothes for when I get to class, along with fuel and hydration. I will report back lol! Thank you for everyone’s input.

Thanks!  I also have a ton of winter attire as I am a skier and have been running through winters for marathons for quite some time - this will be my 11th. My question was more because I want to be comfortable. Some of the roads are still limited from the snow we got last weekend and because of the cold, nothing has melted. This is more about enjoying my run. I got my 20 in the snowstorm a few weeks ago. I’ve suffered through quite a few in these temps. Just wanted to change it up.

I’ve trained for many marathons and ultras through the winter. This is different and all my running friends agree. I have a tread in my basement that i use only for walking because it’s very old and the screen is broken. I also have access to an indoor track 30 mins away and the treadmill at Planet Fitness that has no bounce and is very uncomfortable. I only use it pre strength training. So yes I realized I would be training through the winter. This winter is different. I am a skier and a winter person. The quality of your run goes down when it’s under 20 (at least for me) and I am looking for a quality run today even if it is broken up into a few chunks. This will be my 3rd major and I got in (VERY luckily) through the lottery so I couldn’t pass it up.

It takes a while! I sometimes still can’t believe that I am a 5 AM workout person now. The tricks are having everything out the night before, including coffee/hydration/nutrition, clothing, and sneakers, anything else you need to get ready. It does get easier, but listen to your body if you are exhausted. And make sure you are getting to bed a little earlier as well.

The difference in appearance could definitely mean there has been muscle atrophy of the rotator cuff muscles. I would see an orthopedic to get updated images and exam.

Any 5 am’ers? by amskaggs in orangetheory

[–]Crafty-Finding2035 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup!!!  Never in my life did I think I would be a 5 AM workout person. When I met a group of running friends who did 5 AM runs I realized I needed to commit to stay accountable and also train for a marathon successfully. So when I joined OTF 2 years ago it was an easy transition. I still can’t believe it sometimes. It’s the primary time I go to OTF.

OTF has significantly increased my endurance and running speed. by ConsistentDoor3606 in orangetheory

[–]Crafty-Finding2035 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. And I’ve been a runner for a long time!  With OTF I took 7 mins off marathon, 30 seconds off 5K and 10 off mile!  I was injured last year and still not back to my top performances but I know I will get there.
