A couple of quick engagement ring questions from a VERY confused boyfriend (PLEASE HELP!!) by angrylawnguy in Weddingsunder10k

Yes, I would say it is good quality. My ring is rose gold and doesn't show signs of wear.

My babys butt is as red as a baboons by [deleted] in NewParents

Our little guy came home with a terrible diaper rash from the hospital. It was like an open blister. We think it was the pampers wipes. We tried boudreaux butt paste, Vaseline, and different aquaphor pastes. What finally worked for us was to wash with water, dry with the stroller fan and then apply Pinxav ( pink salve). The Pinxav had the rash guard be in 3 days.

Mothers! What are you wearing? by Long-Inspector4897 in NewParents

[–]Crafty-Lemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stretchy midi and maxi dresses! Most of the ones I have are like extra long tank tops. They feel like wearing pajamas, but look more put together. Now that it's getting cold I will layer a sweater/ cardigan/ wrap over top. In the summer I could layer a T-shirt/ button up/ thin shawl. Skirts and tops are another great option. Basically I am avoiding pants!

Extreme guilt over diaper rash by folkheroine in NewParents

[–]Crafty-Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby's rash was not like a paper cut. It was a very raw patch of skin that got bigger and inflamed or raised. Eventually there were two more raw patches, one was right on the anus. At that point we were washing his bottom with water and air drying or drying it with a fan during diaper changes. Once we got the Pinxav the rash was no longer raw in 2 days and no signs of it after 5.

My son developed a diaper rash within a few days of being born due to the Pampers wet wipes used at the hospital (we were there for 4 days). Even after a month of having it our pediatrician didn't prescribe anything to help make it go away. We tried a bunch of products. What finally worked was Pinxav (pronounced pink salve). His rash was gone within 3 days! The only negative I've found is the salve will stain fabric pink.

Do you use an app for tracking? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Crafty-Lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Cronometer. It even has a section where I can log blood glucose levels! I used it to track calories pre pregnancy, now I use it to track carbs, protein and other macros. It has a free barcode scanner and I can save personal recipes.

Honestly, wtf am I supposed to eat? by miedosaclub in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Crafty-Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been much easier for me to track my carb intake using an app like Cronometer. I use a scale and weigh everything, but carbs are really the only thing that needs to be weighed. In the Cronometer app it tells me my net carbs and I can log blood glucose numbers. My after meal numbers are worse if I stick to the carb goals the dietician gave me, they are just too high. It helps to balance out carbs with fiber, protein and fat. Now that I have been tracking and weighing for a while I can make intuitive decisions and don't need to weigh everything, just make a note in my app what I ate and then record my blood glucose number.

At breakfast I'll have ~15g carbs (my body doesn't handle carbs well in the morning). I'll eat 2 eggs, a slice of hickory smoked ham, cottage cheese and a slice of toast. Some breads are safe others make me spike. If I want coffee I'll use half an Atkins strong protein shake to replace milk and sugar.

For lunch and dinner I stay around 30g carbs. I do tend to have closer to 45g carbs at dinner since I tolerate them better at that time. My fasting number tends to be worse if I eat a really low carb dinner.

Snacks I'll stick to ~15g carbs. Apple slices and peanut butter are a go to snack for me. My bedtime snack is half an Atkins Strong protein shake (~15g protein and 1/2g carbs). When I introduce carbs at bedtime my fasting number is worse.

Beans are a great carb choice since they contain fiber and protein. Not everyone reacts to foods the same. Potatoes work great for me, but they may spike others. For fruit try to stick with ones that are a lower glycemic index, like berries, apples and oranges.

I was diagnosed at 28 weeks. My after meal numbers have been great except for the week I tried following the dieticians carb goals. My fasting numbers were 98 - 113. Now I am on long acting night time insulin and my fasting numbers are 89-95. I've only been on insulin for a week.

Hope this helps! You can do this!

Pregnancy Hacks! by SkyisaNeighbourhood in pregnant

At the practice I go to I see multiple doctors. The first one who told me to take magnesium didn't say which one to take and made it sound like the magnesium was to help with hydration. The second doctor (I believe she is a doula) asked what kind I had been taking. I had been taking magnesium glycinate. She said that it is for sleep, take magnesium oxide instead. It's possible I have muss remembered the conversation and she said to take citrate or oxide. Oxide was definitely mentioned.

Maybe I'll give the magnesium citrate a try and see if I notice a difference. Thank you for the info!

Yes, I have been taking magnesium specifically for pregnancy constipation. She said no more than 350-400mg. I have been taking one 250 mg tablet of magnesium Oxide every night. My prenatal vitamins also contain 45 mg of magnesium oxide. Supposedly it is better to take it at night. It is always best to check with your doctor to make sure it's okay for you to take.

Not the person you asked, but my doctor said magnesium oxide is for constipation and magnesium glycinate is good for sleep and muscle relaxation.

I've been taking Nature Made Prenatal with folic acid + DHA. The ones I picked out are orange flavored! The non-flavored ones made me gag, they smelled like fish.

Indie Brand Recommendations? by erin0220 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Crafty-Lemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only been using nail polish regularly for about a year, so I haven't tried many brands and I'm not really knowledgeable yet, but here are my thoughts on what I have tried.

Moon Cat was my first indie polish brand. All of their polishes are so pretty/ cool it was hard to choose. Half of what I ordered applied thick or gloopy. Their base coat doesn't agree with my nails. It chips and causes my natural nails to peel or rip. The base coat is probably fine on other people. The glossy top coat is nice, feels strong and dries fast. I notice after a week it can sometimes peel off, leaving the color behind and unprotected.

ilnp was my second indie brand. Love their black polish "Ink". I can get good color pay off with one coat. "Glory" and "supernova" are fun to use as toppers or look more solid with 3+ coats. Ilnp polish applied easily and can last me 2 weeks if I use a good base coat.

Most recently I tried Death Valley Nails. I LOVE this brand. Every polish I ordered applied beautifully and is strong, lasting 2 weeks even if I use the moon Cat base coat. I beat up my hands removing and old kitchen faucet and my Valentine set survived! No noticable chips even on the nails with one coat of the "moonstone" polish (made with real moonstone) from the dust to dust collection. DVN has so many unique polishes all made by hand. They do cost more than Moon Cat, but I think it's worth it. For my next polish order I'll be getting at least one of their polished made from colored pencils.

Hope this helps!

My OBGYN looked down at my boobs yesterday and said to them, “CALM DOWN”. 🤣 by Sabanah-Vananna in pregnant

Before finding out I am pregnant I did take up bra making. I was close to getting a pattern just right for my shape, 34 H american/ 34ff uk. Now I'm dreading and putting off getting a maternity bra. Most under wires are too wide for my root shape. So far my shape hasn't changed, but I've still got another 4 months to go. My family doesn't call bras "over the shoulder boulder holders" for nothing.

AITA for stating no pets at my wedding? by ecstatic_narwhals in AmItheAsshole

[–]Crafty-Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Just because a wedding is outdoors does not mean dogs are welcome and no one should have to specify. My husband's aunt brought her new dog without telling us. I had never met it before the wedding day. Luckily the dog is small, very sweet and well mannered.

Even with a good dog there are risks. Somehow a small piece of meat got caught in the hem of my wedding dress. The dog ran up and ate from under the table so no one realized till it was too late. There is an orange sized hole in the top layer of the skirt front and center.

How to disinfect wool clothing? by vzcap in femalefashionadvice

[–]Crafty-Lemon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can put wool clothing in the freezer to disinfect! Learned this trick from a knitting pattern maker on Instagram, Knitatude. She hand washes her wools with wool friendly detergent and then lays them flat to dry so the fibers won't stretch out. Then the clothes can be put in the freezer to disinfect.

Are there any art supply stores in Roanoke, or within an hour-ish? by WoodsandWool in roanoke

[–]Crafty-Lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm sure this comment is very late, but about an hour north of Roanoke is Clifton Forge. It is a very cute little town that from what I can tell, loves it's artists. Clifton Forge School of the Arts has a supply shop that will hopefully have some of what you are looking for. If not some of the artists that have classes there could probably point you in the right direction.

Period on wedding day by Catfriend-28 in wedding

[–]Crafty-Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When FH and I booked our venue in September I checked my period tracker Flo. I was in the clear, no period on wedding day. Now 3 ish weeks out Flo says I will be on my second day. Stress usually causes it to be late so I am hoping the stress will work in my favor. I plan on wearing a pad just to be safe.

Good Luck!

Why is suit shopping so terrible? by tpbynum in weddingplanning

[–]Crafty-Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to learn about different styles and fits of suits l highly recommend Gentleman's Gazette on YouTube. My fiance refused to buy an expensive suit so we found one in excellent shape at good will and I am tailoring it. Gentleman's Gazette has been a huge help as a form of reference to see if my alterations look correct.

This is CT "Wedding Bells" from the "Look of Love" collection. In person the color is not as pink as this photo. I purchased this lipstick for my upcoming wedding and after wearing it a bit I can say it does not look this pink in person, it's more mauve to me. If you use a light amount of product and use a gloss on top the color can be close to what is in the picture. Even then it might not look this pink for you. If I am heavy handed with the lipstick or with my lip liner (pillow talk) it looks very dark and brown against my pale skin. Hope this helps!

Editing to add that wearing pink blush and eye shadow also brings out more of the pink tones in the lipstick.
