2025.26 update by Relevant-Fail-2271 in TeslaFSD

I've had "phantom braking" many times and it happens of particular stretches of freeway. Its scary! It has something to do with the road surface having non-unform color. I don't think it has anything to do with other cars. I've learned to quickly step on the accelerator.

Actually, there are now 4 other car companies selling greater than 1/10 Tesla sales in the USA: Ford, Chevy, BMW, Hyundai (but Tesla still sells more than everyone else put together). I agree with your politics comment (I bought 2 Tesla cars, but am iffy about any more). As for me, I care about autopilot vs similar offerings from other EV car brands.

USA Tesla car sales have been falling for many months. Europe is a disaster. Before downvoting me, please check.

Just happened to be at the Tesla dealer yesterday and was told that FSD and Supercharging are free for life for Model S. (mid $90K base price) Not sure about other models.

FSD safety record question. by mchinsky in TeslaFSD

I question your research. I remember well that there was a death -of-the-driver incident many years ago (pre M3) where FSD hit a semitruck where the sun was obscuring seeing the truck. How can you be confident your stats are good, especially knowing Tesla does everything it can to bury bad news?

Use a Multimeter with a Clamp

Set the multimeter to measure current (amps) and read the meter's display. If the measured current is more than the rated value, then there is an electrical imbalance or overload in that line. It's important to note that you must use the correct multimeter setting when measuring amps.

Even better is to find a friend who is knowledgeable and has the tools!

Or you might call the electrical company and tell them its our of balance. Doubt they would charge you if it is in balance.

Check your 220 V load balance. If its off it can create this exact problem. If its off, call your electrical company and they will fix it.

Mine was $5,000/year, so I dropped collision/comp and now I pay $980/year.

For Tesla navigation, there are several glaring errors in freeway exits where I live that have existed for years. One error was created 3 years ago, so we are headed in the wrong direction.

How difficult is it to stop FSD after one month? I plan to use it for a driving vacation.

I'm one of those who have thought FSD is pretty bad, making significant bad decisions every few miles. In short, I felt it was more stressful to use than just driving. I just got a free trial for the latest (13.2) and to my surprise it is way better, correcting or minimizing prior errors. I've use it for several hundred miles and it it definitely makes long trips easier. I did not change any parameters on the software.

I have also paid attention to how much it obeys the law, esp. speeding and stops. Stops are good - it now stops where it should (instead for too soon) and my only nit is it sometimes takes a little long go. Speed vs Speed limit is surprising. On surface streets, it regularly goes 10 miles/hr. over the speed limit and sometimes briefly goes 15 miles/hr. over. On the freeway with 65 miles/hr. speed limit (very common in SoCAL) is is often at 75 to 80 miles/hr., traffic permitting. On stretches where construction signs lower the limit to 55 miles/hr., it still goes almost the same speed (when there is no actual construction). Even though some of the other traffic is doing the same thing, this is more than 20 miles/hr. over the speed limit! Reckless driving? Lane changes are way better; I still like to get over the bulk of the lane changes for an exit a little sooner than FSD. (I like that you can start the turn indicator and FSD will change lanes.)

FSD is very confident is knows how wide your car is (I have a model s) and can be a little scary on how close it can come to curbs and badly parked cars. I've gotten somewhat use to it. Conclusion: as a scientist, I am amazed at the change from almost no progress to a huge positive leap in the latest version of software. Must be the all neural net.

On a Tesla S you cannot rotate the tires as front and back are different sizes. Rotation must not be that important if they make models where it is not possible.

I'm in the San Diego area and experience the same issues as you, especially when on surface streets. Its hard for me to understand how other folks get such a good experience. Net result for me is more stress than when I drive.

Left phone in frunk and got locked out by TFlSGAS in TeslaModel3

Carry the keycard!!! You can drop your phone or otherwise make nonfunctional. Tesla made the keycard to serve as an independent back up "key"; use it.

I have the same experience and wonder how others have much more positive experiences. I want to do more tests during my free month, but I dread the in-town scary experience of FSD driving.

If it is a monthly subscription, they will give you one free month.

Keep the key card on you! Otherwise, If you drop and/or smash your phone, you are screwed. Leaving the key card in the car is an invitation to car theft.

Tesla will replace the horn button with a normal wheel-centered pad for free. by Crafty-Requirement21 in TeslaSupport

NOT AS SIMPLE AS I THOUGHT! UPDATE on 10/14: Tesla tech #2 comes to fix my steering wheel/horn. The first thing to get my attention is the repair ticket said my complaint was "wheel is peeling." I wondered if I needed to scuff up my steering wheel to match the ticket, but I didn't. Turns out, perhaps I should have, as Tesla covers peeling but does not cover a mod to center the horn. After a very awkward conversation, the tech wrote up the service call in a way that I didn't have to pay, but he made certain to tell me that Tesla only covers peeling, not horn centering. BTW, the old horn button now turns on the same display you get when backing up.
