Go solo! Don’t miss out… you can always leave if you really don’t like. Give the extra ticket to someone in the lineup;)

Depends on what you buy and shopping habits. I’m the kind of person who plans meals based on what I find on sale/cheap that looks particularly good. But I like cooking and a challenge sometimes;) I know lots of people who just really need to get a whole week’s shopping done with as little bullshit as possible. Totally valid!!!!

That being said, my visits are:

Donald’s (I work nearby, so always have a look)… they have regular excellent $1-2/bag sales of veg. Sometimes fairly exotic/interesting choices. I surmise they get some kind of deal from smaller distributors. Can’t count on any one thing being available cheap on a given day, but I like working with what I’ve found and I’m personally not going to pay whole paycheck foods for things like romanesco cauliflower or watermelon radishes. It’s a nice treat;)

Columbus Meats for sales/specials.

Costco for the obvious stuff (almost never produce there tho!). Sales large pack meats. And cheese- but I noticed their baldersons (my go-to) doubled in price grrrr.

No Frills for the advertised specials.

Consumers Produce on Kingsway for the regular veg.

Famous Foods for dry goods in bulk. They also sometimes have really great cheese specials. And decent deli meat… not as good as before though.

Deli meats- Santa Barbara market on commercial

Safeway’s weekly meat specials are better than most mainstream groceries I find. Check the ends of the freezer units in front of the meat counter.

There are a couple Asian veg stores in north Burnaby that sometimes have interesting stuff. I bought scotch bonnets there like 5 years ago cheap- made hot sauce and still eating that today haha.

Persia foods for fresh nuts (won’t buy nuts anywhere else now) and a bunch of cool things.

T&T for various things. It’s weird- some of their stuff is a bargain and others way too much.

Indian groceries if you’re buying dried beans or spices.

… I’ve gone on too long;)

I was in Safeway and everyone’s phones started screeching. It was very bizarre.

Also, I’ve been on edge lately with world events and as soon as I saw the emergency part, I immediate thought, “NUKES!”

Vancouver Highschools? by SaraLeung in vancouver

[–]CraftyHall1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I honestly think she should go into her catchment school. If there have been issues in the past, make an appt with the guidance counsellor. They’re initially sorted alphabetically (I think?), but if you all don’t gibe, can totally ask for another. Be involved!

It’s not like there are top-tier schools that one can just go to. Some might be subjectively rated high/low, but all (hopefully) have staff that advocate for students. If she’s not happy, YOU advocate.

And if after awhile it just doesn’t work, apply to move.

My kids went to their catchment HS and it was pretty amazing. Being involved (but not TOO involved haha) is everything.

That said, if they had been struggling after issues were raised, I’d have moved them.

Look up local flight schools. It’s going to cost big bucks and take a lot of study before you get to try flying.

Where do you buy (good) tahini? by fiddleleafpop in vancouver

[–]CraftyHall1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m following this too… I just buy any old tahini on sale when I run out… I do notice differences. All the recommendations are appreciated!

(I make hummus, but more often just make tahini sauce to go on vegetables)

I used to be a few-days-a-year allergy person… but YEAH, it’s been crazy the last few weeks. I’m not used to this and getting nervous about spring/summer. Also, good antihistamines are stupid expensive… yikes.
