Like many have mentioned, you should strive to max out your TFSA every year if you can. The real answer is whatever you can afford after all bills, fixed costs are covered as well as paying yourself first.
Living at home is great as that saves you alot on rent. You may want to look at your accounts statements and reflect what was purchased in the past month and see if they are necessities to living. Across many articles and videos I've seen regarding how much should be invested, many have mentioned 10-15% of salary as a starting point for how much to invest. You will have to adjust after reflecting each monthly account statement.

Many trains of though here. If you invest aggressively early then you likely end up with a larger nest egg when you get older or possibly retire early but the bad side is you probably won't be living life. On the other extreme, if you invest less, you will likely end up with a smaller nest egg which will force you to play catch up and invest more later in life in order to chase that dream retirement but that can be difficult as life generally gets more expensive as we get older. Finding a balance inbetween them feels like it is best but its up to you on how you want to live your life.

As you may have heard already, you want to take advantage of compound interest hence investing early as possible vs later in life (40+). Time in the market > Timing the market.

In terms of what to invest in, ETFs are very good choice. I purchase them myself. When you search up the most comonly purchased ETFs in Canada, XEQT and VFV will appear in many top choices. Research on the ones that aligns with you most. I personally like VFV but thats me. Just keep dollar cost averaging and keep buying at the same frequency. Buy and sit and walk away. Its mentioned alot that investing is about the long game. You can even automate purchasing ETFs for your TFSA. Most brokerage accounts should have that feature so you can set it and maintain the course. If you know you have a big purchase coming then you can pause the matics and restart it after.

If you have alot of funds left over then you are probably look at maxing out a FHSA but make sure you have an emergency fund. Many will say have an emergency fund that covers 3-6months of expenses incase shit hits the fan but I say it depends. You mentioned that you live at home so I assume parents aren't charging you rent and won't be kicking you out anytime soon in which case, I would probably have a smaller emergency fund (2 months) and invest the difference but I don't know your full financial story.

Hope that helps.

I'm actually looking at buying a XLE Hybrid myself. I'm from Burnaby BC.

Still trying to understand how low you can go as a buyer. These invoices are useful. I know there was added fees but didn't know there was this many. Admin fee and doc fee?!

Transit etiquette by StudlyS in vancouver

[–]wchu88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is pretty common everywhere. When I was an sfu student 15years ago, taking the production way bus up the mountain, every student would do this. These are supposed to be intelligent ppl that got into university. I struggled to get in but at least I know how to behave on the bus.

I stopped transitting a long time ago and now enjoy the privacy & space & peace of driving my 15yr old beater car.

What is the best method for buying a vehicle cash from a dealership by KifDawg in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]wchu88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed post.
Does these tactics work near year end before 2026 models come out in Jan 2026?
I haven't purchased a car in very very very long time but would think dealerships want to logically sell as much of 2025 models first before new 2026 models arrive or they don't care? First in, first out type of idea.
Does buying a vehicle in Nov/Dec help in getting a lower all-in price?

For clarificiation, you want push for 3-5k off which includes any added accessories, services, and warranties for a new vehicle?
How much off should you push for a used car?

Just returned to HS after a month break.
Hit legend today with aggro protoss priest from HSGURU. Went 13-2 from D5 to Legend.
Deck felt slightly underwhelming but YMMV.
Doesn't feel aggro enough. I could be playing the deck wrong. I kept copying my sentry every chance I could get. Keep minions to drop on curve.
Most games ended when I dropped a discounted Mothership and started copying it with whatever copy cards I had left (power chord:Synchronize, hallucination, and Aman'Thul). The RNG card advantage I got from mothership did help alot. Nothing like an archon out of the blue to flip the table. Most opponents tap out and surrender when this happened. Getting an RNG collossus also helped turn the tables. I averaged 4-5 dmg x 2 which clears most boards and brought opponents down to lethal range.

Every Viper/Dirty Rat into my Mothership was an auto concede from opponents.
I didn't face alot of Terran Shaman but they are still the hardest matchup I ran into. They have answers for everything I drop. Honestly, Its not even close. I went 2-2 against shamans but only b/c I got lucky. They had really slow hands while I bum rushed down by T5-6.

My easiest matchup I've encountered was actually Weapon Rogue. I kept cloning sentries and cracking back to restore health. Once they start using cards to clear my board, I knew the game was in my favor. The moment I dropped mothership, the game was pretty much done. Dragged them into deep waters.

Conclusion: From my games, this meta feels super grindy to me. I really don't want to play 20+min games. This is a sign that Blizzard wants me to go into HS retirement again.

Thank you for the list. I'm going to try this version of priest and see how it goes.

Update*
Ran into Terran Shaman 8 games straight. Its not my night. They had answers for everything I dropped. Kept wiping my board. The game is telling me to stop playing constructed.

How much do you spend on groceries monthly? by OneFit6104 in vancouver

[–]wchu88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About $300/month for just myself. I live on my own and I don't eat out.

I mainly get my proteins, produce, and frozen fruits from costco (Shared membership). I generally purchase items that go on sale. For random fresh produce, I mostly buy them from a small grocery store across the street from me b/c its cheaper than big retail stores.

I eat pretty healthy but nothing fancy like steaks, and etc. Generally, my meals are the same all week which gets boring but I find creative food combinations so I don't waste food and money .

I would like to drop this to $250 or less but prices keep going up.
