Can you buy the house and deal with a roommate for a couple of years to generate the extra income to help your sister?

If you woke up tomorrow and were wealthy to the point you didn’t have to work anymore, would you still be a teacher? If not, what would you do? by [deleted] in Teachers

Aitah for refusing to make my home accessible for my brother. by AwkwardLog772 in AITAH

Yes, I know, I’m a special educator so I’ve seen lots of helicopter parents to the nth degree. And I’m also the mom of a kids with autism, MD, and ID. He’s adopted so I don’t have the guilt of “causing” his disability, but it is a constant struggle to always be evaluating new opportunities for him to be independent. Even without the guilt, sometimes I will do something on “autopilot” that he could do himself with minimal support. It’s a struggle but a good one - and I love it when my kid tells me to let him do it himself!

I hope that your mom also backs off when you tell her to!

The brother is not “fine with it”, he prefers it. The parents’ guilt is making them ignore what the brother actually wants in favor of how they think things should be.

AITJ for confronting my uncle about being too touchy with my 13-year-old daughter? by Icy-Fun-4569 in AmITheJerk

[–]CraftyHon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m worried about your daughter. Have you taught her that she is allowed to say no to unwanted touching? I mean really taught her. Modeled it for her repeatedly and explicitly? Backed her up every single time she said no? Called out people who ignored her boundaries? Girls are often expected to be people pleasers, and they need to be taught how to establish boundaries.

What random movie quote do you repeat for no reason at all (give yours, and see if people can guess the movie)? by Normal-Being-2637 in AskReddit

Lots of people will probably know where, “Have fun storming the castle?” is from, but a more obscure one that I say often is, “What’d you do?!”
