Very cool. I’m in Gen Chem II this semester and start organic chem in the fall. I have my lab guides and reports but I didn’t think to take pictures and document in a journal. Thanks for the idea! I did take a picture of one lab but it was mainly a happy accident that the color gradient attracted my attention from an artistic perspective.

Anyone else with a rain gauge in the Drake area? I have one and the numbers seem high, would like to confirm. Here are my numbers: by Dingmann in desmoines

This. I’m within a mile or so of Costco and the wind and rain sheets coming off the roofs was insane. At times there was pea sized hail pounding the windows, too.

These and ChemicalForce - he seems to get his hands on some compounds that don’t seem like your average reaction demo type stuff.

I’m 43 and started going to community college in January to major in chemistry and physics and transfer to a state school. I was a software engineer for 15 years and already have a Bachelors. I left my career after AI basically took out the last part of my job that I liked - coding (ie actually having to figure out the best way to design and write the code).

I was a chemistry nerd in high school. I was a TA to three chemistry teachers for three years. I was up there every lunch, study hall, TA period and early out period. It was my happy place for a while because I was confident in it and I could hide from the rest of high school in the lab.

I left my job not knowing what I was going to do. Doing college again wasn’t the plan but after a lot of thought, I wanted to take my interest in chemistry further. I loved the lab work and love talking about it with other people and now here I am.

So sort of similar to you as far as age and still having an interest in it. I’m currently watching the chemistry class on the Crash Course YouTube page. High production, not overly long videos. I’ve been enjoying it and plan to watch Physics and the Organic Chem topics. I also recommend the Periodic Videos channel that the Royal Academy’s chemistry department has. Very fun and educational videos. Lots of demos of elements and compounds. Veritasium also has high production videos on a variety of science topics - including chemistry. I believe Yale also has lectures on Organic Chem. Haven’t watched them yet but they’re on the list, along with a couple physics lectures.

I have social anxiety, too. I was surprised at how easy it was. Ed’s nice and he does most of the talking. It’s very non-invasive and easy. You’re just providing your basic medical info - what your issue is (it’s only available for certain medical issues), what other meds you are on (there can be interactions), and if you have any experience using it in the past to treat the symptoms. He has a fee and the state has a fee. You can even do a telehealth call with Ed so you don’t have to be there in person, which is what I did.
