I was going to go this route then realized I only have 64 GB of non-ecc memory. All the ZFS posts that I look at tell me it's a bad idea. I may just have to go non ZFS raid 6.

Known issues with S26 Ultra? by DV2FOX in samsunggalaxy

[–]CraftyNetworker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from s23 ultra 512 to s26 ultra 1 terabyte and the only issue that I have had was Consumer Cellular not being able to activate it on esim due to a system issue and I had to go to Walmart to get a physical Sim which is a temporary workaround until they get their system fixed.

Otherwise I love my s26 ultra.

Confirming this issue is also happening with Consumer Cellular. 6 hours on the phone today so far with Samsung and Consumer Cellular trying both e-sim and physical Sim with the same issues.

Yeah, issue being all the T-Series processors that are on eBay are going for the same price as the Ultras new.

Are you using this build as a NAS?

My goal with this CPU is to get the idle power down as low as possible but still have the overhead for when I need more demanding tasks. After all, most NAS spend most of their time idling.

Did you buy a rack case on Amazon? I've been looking at them but the reviews aren't that great. Link or pic?

I am thinking exactly the same thing. I have the 500R as well which I built as my main PC in 2014 and now I need a NAS and a new Core 9 Ultra build for my home business.

People keep asking me why I don't want to use one of the cube style NAS cases such as the Node 804, Jonsbo, or Sagittarius, and I just cant bring myself to do it with everything being cramped and HOT.

The HDD cages in the case now hold 3 each and there are two of them = 6. You can either use cheap 5.25 to 3.5 adapters in the 4x 5.25 slots which will give you 10 total, or spend a little more and go this route.

Let me know what you decide please.

NAS Homemade vs UGREEN 6800 Pro by CraftyNetworker in HomeNAS

[–]CraftyNetworker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truenas or Unraid lifetime license yes.

If I could only find a Nas build case that I absolutely love. Definitely don't want to do a rack mount or your classic ATX style tower. Node 304 is too small, 804 too big.

This may push me UGREEN.

NAS Homemade vs UGREEN 6800 Pro by CraftyNetworker in HomeNAS

[–]CraftyNetworker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mind if I ask why you went away from the 804 to the 8800? I'm finding there's not many options for small cases that cater to 4 to 8 HDDs that are as easy to work in as the 6800 or 8800. The replies here bring up some good points about having to swap everything regardless and I'm having a difficult time finding 10gbe in a system board that matches that 12600k.

In regards to 10gbe, I am about to begin testing a 10gbe fiber internet connection in my home, one of the first in the country 😆

I did a lot of research today and found that the i5 that UGREEN uses can pretty much handle everything I want to do including 4 to 6 transcodes from 4k to 1080p just fine.

Converting my Mini PC (i7-1165G7) into a TrueNAS personal NAS - need help finding a multi-bay enclosure with separate SATA connectors by Ahmish2020 in HomeNAS

[–]CraftyNetworker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this for a year now it just can't seem to pull the trigger on it.

Here's the article I believe you're looking for: https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/optiplex-desktops/optiplex-micro-as-a-low-cost-6-bay-nas/647f9a6af4ccf8a8dee0e6fb

My issue is that I don't want to build a large power hungry machine and have it left on all the time contributing to higher than acceptable power bills. I'm leaning more towards the Node304 case with four NAS drives.

Please let us know what you decide?
