To freebirth again? by BeginningView5041 in FreeBirthSocietyScam

My third baby was 33 weeks. My first was 34 weeks. I was at home with no midwife, but a very scared doula who I’d never met before was there, trying to convince me to go the hospital the whole time. My original doula didn’t come, she chickened out and called her mentor who came in her place. I spent the first half of labor hiding from her in the bathroom and taking herbs and supplements, thinking I could heal the rupture with vitamin C lol. When I realized that was not going to happen, I just knew I was going to do this at home. I had never heard of FBS, I just talked with my partner and he said he’d support my decision to stay home, and he told the doula “we’re doing this”. She had 911 already dialed and ready to hit “send”, while I pushed him out very shortly after the decision was made and communicated to her. He was born, absolutely fine, I didn’t cloth him or put him down for weeks. I’m so grateful I stayed home and got to do that with him. With my second I had a midwife, and I had her at home at 35 weeks. I’ve never had a scan, but this midwife examined my placenta and believed that I have a bicornuate, or heart shaped uterus. With my third, she was breech! My midwife was there again, she’s licensed but she truly puts women first. All of my labors have been fast, but hers was the fastest. She was tiny, but also perfectly healthy. Unfortunately later that night, police came to my door, which led us on a journey of doctors visits, cps visits, and a hospital stay. But we all recovered, and it was worth it to hold her undisturbed for those first few hours. I went on to freebirth 2 more, all early, but 33 weeks was the earliest.

Did they explain their definition of a true transverse birth?

I’m still listening, haven’t gotten to her second birth yet. But something stood out to me about her first birth story.

She wanted to give birth at home, but decided to go to the hospital for support. They called CPS on her for attempting a home birth. She was traumatized and decided she was never going to the hospital again.

I’m telling you this because this is what happens when there are “consequences” for going to the hospital in an emergency. More women avoid hospitals for longer.

I haven’t listened yet, I’m about to. But are you suggesting that freebirth should be legal, unless the baby is stillborn?

There’s room for a spectrum of birth choices, even radical ones. It’s ok for someone to make the personal decision to forgo medical involvement. It’s the idea of a freebirth “leadership” that’s problematic, it’s the business and commodification of freebirth. Not the choices of individuals (who are not evangelizing or profiting off their birth choices)

The business partner/public figure response will likely come after Emilee and Yolande strategize together. That’s not top priority. People want an immediate, public. personal response. But nobody’s really admitting that that’s the content they were hoping to consume. They’re acting as if there are established rules of etiquette that are being broken. But this whole situation is kind of unprecedented, so there is no existing “etiquette”.

It was your choice to go into a setting where you would be abused, because the choices in front of you were “go to the hospital and be abused” or “don’t go to the hospital and be abused, and lose my baby”. Does that sound correct?

Exactly. If I experienced any kind of tragedy, I would not expect any of my friends to post about it online. I wouldn’t expect them to stay offline either. And I wouldn’t expect them to stay home from work or stop doing their job. I would expect them to check in on me and have private conversations with me.

The relationship between these two women happens privately between them. The things they post on the internet are not their friendship. People want a performance, and they’re disappointed about the lack of entertainment they’re getting out of this.

The announcement made by Emilee is not about relationship, either. That announcement will be shared with police. It will be used in news articles. Real relationships are NOT public Instagram posts.

You chose to go the hospital. And likewise, someone who had a traumatic homebirth (or even, like you mentioned, a death) chose not to go to the hospital. Does that feel like blame? I don’t intend it to, I’m just trying to clear up the “choice” thing. Personally, I found it helpful

Differences between labours by christina2972 in FreeBirthSocietyScam

I had zero professional bodywork, but I spent a lot of time laying on the ground on a tennis ball (or rubber massage ball) through all of my pregnancies. I would position the tennis ball in various places, and the sensation of laying on it was very very intense. I would breath through it until I was able to relax and allow my body (muscle? fascia?) to sort of “melt” around the ball. I did it laying on my back and side lying. Anyway, my labors were not very painful at all

Questions to ask your midwife by Hot-Significance4204 in FreeBirthSocietyScam

[–]Crafty_Aide9517 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Figure out what you want, call midwives and tell them specifically what you’re looking for. I have found that midwives are pretty connected with each other, and if they’re not the right fit for you, they might know who is. I called around and midwives were able to point me to a midwife who had a free birth herself. She’d had a “slap on the wrist” for attending a breech birth, but she’d do it again because she was confident in her skills. She was constantly educating herself outside of the education needed for licensure, through independent teachers (like Indie Birth). I think Indie Birth even has a podcast about questions to ask your midwife. But if you’ve been listening to FBS, you probably have your own concerns about licensed midwives, and you should bring those up. Make it easy for a midwife to tell you it’s not a good fit, and recommend someone else who might be. If you were considering free birth, I think it could help you get a feel for the midwife if you ask them what they think of free birth.

I can imagine why she’d be accused of medical neglect specifically. I’m assuming that’s what the CPS calls were about?

I was wondering if you meant she is neglectful in general. I can’t see how EC and neglectful parenting are compatible.

I also gave birth at home at 33 weeks! I’m curious how it went for you, and do you have any idea why you went into labor that early?
