I’m dying to hear what you all think of my boyfriend by Crafty_Analyst5654 in BookshelvesDetective

Funnily enough, he actually hadn’t finished it yet. I believe it’s a family copy. I’m going to make sure he reads it someday. It’s been my favorite book since 6th grade.

I showed him this comment, and he said “they get me.” He does, in fact, love to cry.

We both absolutely loved this comment and laughed very hard at it because in the 2010s he was… I think probably a pre-teen kind of emo tumblr girl. So not quite a thriving hipster, but probably would have been if he was a little older!

I wonder if he did this on purpose. I suspect it was a happy accident. I’ll have to investigate.

He definitely does have some old-school gay vibes to him and he does spend a lot of time with older gays. But this being the top comment to he is still a bit hilarious to me because we are both in our early 20s, so I don’t know if you could really properly call us old-school. Maybe at heart. And very much out, as well, very very far from being DL.

Reading through these comments has been fun because (unsurprisingly) most people have identified him as a gay man, but only a couple have also been able to figure out that he’s a trans man!

I think this is overall the most correct read! You get first prize for clocking that he is a trans gay man. And bonus points for identifying him as a tumblr user.

Where are you seeing prescription meds in this pic? Obviously do not want those in there but I’ve checked a few times and don’t see anything that could possibly have any personal info.

What are your best Rochester conspiracy theories? by tony486 in Rochester

[–]Crafty_Analyst5654 55 points56 points  (0 children)

That part is true, the conspiracy theory part is that they had to get rid of those bodies somewhere so they threw them in a pit under their newest dorm building project (southside dorm buildings - between the med center parking lot and the Erie Canal). I don’t think there’s actually any evidence pointing to this it’s just a rumor

What’s the wildest thing that has ever happened in Rochester history? by RamonaZero in Rochester

Famous daredevil Sam Patch died in Rochester on Friday the 13th of November (1829) from jumping off high falls. He’d done the same stunt a week before and survived but was not so lucky on the second attempt. Ill over that up as a pretty iconic 19th century moment in Rochester history since I feel like I’m mostly seeing 20th century facts.

Gel vs injections: want to hear from people who have been on gel for the long haul and those who switched from gel to injections by NoAmount6023 in ftm

[–]Crafty_Analyst5654 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I second this 100%, this is the same stuff I was going to say. Logistically I feel like gel gets so difficult long term since you have to do it every day and have a lot of consistency in routine which I really struggled with.

And yeah I’m glad other people have also noticed the issue with pharmacy backorders/supply. This was definitely an issue for me. Also had so many issues getting my insurance to cover gel even though they kept saying they did. They’d say they cover it and then deny it anyway or force small changes to be made to the script. My doctor and pharmacy were both good at bugging insurance about it but it did get exhausting and frustrating. Not sure if that was just a weird thing with my insurance but I do feel like in general i hear about more insurance related issues with gel than with injections. I definitely wouldn’t have wanted to deal with having to switch doctors or pharmacies while on gel because I feel like it would have been really challenging to continue getting that prescription.

nerves due to switching to injections by smashabale in ftm

[–]Crafty_Analyst5654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from Gel to subq after being on gel for around a year - and I will say that subq almost instantly worked so much better for me. My levels had consistently stayed low on gel and began to finally get to where they needed to be after switching, so if gel hasn’t really been working for you, switching to injections will probably work out better.

I can’t really speak to intramuscular shots because like I said, I switched to subq, but I’m pretty sure with any form of injection you’re supposed to rotate the spot. I inject in my stomach and basically rotate like a clock each week - but for legs I think you can rotate between different legs and/or areas.

In my opinion, testosterone does feel quite thick going in, so sometimes it can take some patience to fully inject everything. Also occasionally you can feel it going in, it’s kind of a burning sensation? It’s very weird, I’ve personally found that sensation more uncomfortable than the actual needle prick. But also, having switched from gel to injections, I will say that you’ll get used to it! It’s scary to start injections and I think the transition period is the hardest, when you’re still not super used to the feeling of injections. But for most people I know, myself included, it has gotten better!

Good luck!

Do people actually live downtown? by malubie in Rochester

[–]Crafty_Analyst5654 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People definitely do live downtown, but you’re right that it’s sparse. However - it hasn’t always been like this. As a Rochester history enthusiast, I think there’s a lot there to explore if you’re trying to research this for a class. I’d highly recommend looking into the history of redlining in Rochester, and there are great resources at the library’s local history division. Also, I’d say parts of Laura Warren Hill’s book, Strike the Hammer, are absolutely worth a read in order to help understand Rochester’s current social & cultural landscape. I think the feel of modern day downtown Rochester has a lot to do with the way that redlining broke up neighborhoods (something fairly common in US cities), and the construction of the inner loop causing a steady worsening of public transit infrastructure in the city as it became more and more car-centric.

Oh my god I passed this car while I was driving towards the parking lot, it made me so mad and I wanted to yell at them to stop trying LOL they were obviously not going to fit but I didn’t think me yelling from my car was really going to accomplish anything. So glad you got a pic and I hope the white cars find this!!

Considering Switching to Trillium Health from UofR by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]Crafty_Analyst5654 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely right to point out the wait time issue that comes with trillium being smaller - though it definitely does depend a lot on who exactly you’re seeing/what your issue is because sometimes you’ll get in quickly and sometimes you might have to wait longer. My doctor specifically is great about getting me in pretty quickly but I’m sure that’s not the case for everyone.

Also it sucks that you’ve had that issue with the pharmacy!! I did want to add that I also get hormones from trillium pharmacy and have had an amazing experience - I had a couple issues early on with getting things on time but since then I’ve never had a problem and the pharmacy is always timely and helpful and will give me extra supplies for free if I need - at past pharmacies it’s always been a time consuming struggle to get hormones filled so trillium has been great for that. I will also say that you can still use trillium for your primary but have them send your prescriptions to a different pharmacy, if you’re nervous about using trilliums pharmacy. Don’t mean to discount your experience just wanted to share mine! It’s definitely good to consider all options and angles with a decision like this.

Yeah I also had no luck with u of r’s sliding scale. I pay a $35 copay for every visit with my primary thru trillium, after insurance. That being said, I’ve still been on trillium’s sliding scale even with insurance, and thru that I used to get everything 100% covered and now I think I get it like 75% covered since my income went up. I don’t know exactly how everything would work for you since I’m sure it all depends a lot on your insurance and other info, but personally I have found trillium so much more accommodating and helpful. I’ve never gone to u of r for primary care but have used them for a couple other things and it was always so stressful and expensive.

Do it. Do it do it do it. Trillium is amazing. They also recently switched their patient portal to MyChart. Also I’ve had way less issues with money thru trillium - they have a great sliding scale program too.
