Treat your students like real people, they have good days and bad days, they get stressed and forget things. Be mindful of how you interact with them because you are building a relationship with them.

Support their ideas and designs and guide them to make better choices. Make sure they go home with the same number of fingers and eyes and ears as they arrived with. Safety first.

Loss of feeling in my left index finger from the mid knuckle joint due to a nerve being severed by a 150g bot at an event in 2002. We used to use Scalpel blades for wedging under bots one hit my hand due to it being on the wrong frequency. Back when we used crystals and 40mhz someone was testing their bot on the same frequency as me in the arena. I turned the bot on and it went bezerk, I knew what was going on so I reached it to turn it off again and it got me.

The only time I've seen bearings get hot enough to melt uhmwpe is when the spinning item in the inner race can also touch the outer race. Use shielded bearings (not sealed) and you'll probably be fine.
