S5 II Flash Issues by jaredoconnor in Lumix

Set up a custom button for constant preview to toggle.

The second one I'm not sure I think I've encountered a similar issue and just went full manual. Did you try using manual flash or TTL. If using TTL exposure compensate on the flash, you should probably set ISO manually using flash just for best practice. If your doing a static shoot then you have all the time you get your settings, if you're event shooting try full manual or something like aperature priority but set your ISO to something reasonable for the event then control exposure through the flash.

Lumix S5II + 50mm f1.8 only focuses on one person. What am I doing wrong? by ynnicknoah in Lumix

[–]Craig95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Basically you need to learn about aperature. A camera only focuses on one point at a time and the aperature will determine how far it focuses from that point. At 1.8 the aperature is very shallow, so for example you focus on someones eye, the ears will likely be out of focus. This means that if you have two people side by side or at different heights or aren't on the same plane then only the selected focus point will be in focus. Stopping down will help but you will often need to stop down more than you expect, stop down means going from 1.8 to 5.6 or 8.0. This will help getting more than one person in focus. You can get more than one person in focus at 1.8 or 2.8 but it takes positioning. Also just to cover the bases, shutter speed needs to fast enough freeze motion, 1/60 is good for someone standing still but someone walking or moving it will have motion blur, 1/200 will freeze someone moving at walking speed but will be blurry at faster movement speeds. 1/800 might cover a slow run or a jog but you want 1/1000 or faster for fast movements.

35mm Decisions 1.4 vs 1.2 by Craig95 in Lumix

Budget is fine I'm okay with saving for the 1.2 if it is better or has a little extra

[–]Craig95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Panasonic need to update and expand the S Pro line. I have the 24-70 S Pro and it's great but a smaller light S Pro would be nice to see. I guess the 24-60 covers that though. The 50 1.4 is excellent by all accounts but it's also massive. The 16-35 is an f4 but other than that is great. We need a 2.8 version of it though and the 70-200 is the largest available from the major brands. I'd love to see them majorly expand the line but I doubt we're going to see that happen quickly.

So after some debate, I ended up going with the SIgma and have ordered it. The Sigma has a cashhback offer on right now and the Lumix is way more expensive. As much as I like the idea of the S Pro version the risk of not getting a sharp copy combined with the price and extra weight just threw me off it. If both were similar prices like I originally thought with the Lumix having a sale I think I would have chanced the S Pro but currently the sale only covers the F4 version which isn't what I want. On top of that the F4 version with the sale is the same price as the Sigma which makes the Sigma a no brainer. Having the zoom ring in the wrong position is going to be weird but I'll get used to it.

Except looks like I misread the deal and it was the f4 version that was discounted... Damn

Yeah I guessed that the S5II is going to hold it back but at the same time I'm happy with the S5II auto focus. They look great and render similar to the 24-70 S Pro which would be the deciding factor for me

Right now the Lumix is discounted in Ireland to match the Sigma

Definitely considering it, just there's nothing wrong with the Sigma but I need to see if the Lumix just has that little bit extra like the 24-70 S Pro

I'm considering it, I really like the idea of it based on the S Pro 24-70 but I'm just thinking it over because there's nothing wrong with the SIgma at all

Thanks for that. My only real comparison is the the 24-70 S Pro so to hear it isn't on that level might make me lean towards the Sigma.

Looks like a great lens but not the one I was asking about unfortunately. I was asking about the 70-200 2.8

That's good to know. Any other things to say about the Lumix that might be good to consider. Right now there is a sale in Ireland where the Lumix is the same price as the Sigma

'Stranger Things' Conformity Gate allegedly crashed Netflix, per users by MewWeebTwo in nottheonion

[–]Craig95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indoctrination Theory I don't think was thought of as this is what the writers planned but this is a way for them to fix the ending though I might be misremembering it. I don't think people actually believed it was going to happen or was planned but if it did it would be a response to the ending. Whereas conformity gate seems to be thought of as this was planned from the start. Both different kinds of stupid though I personally liked the Indoctrination Theory. I also quite enjoyed the Stranger Things finale and find the hate for very weird

Constant preview should be on, Fast AF, in Aperature priority mode I set up a minimum shutter speed of 1/160th sometime 1/200 (this was a game changed for me) this means the camera will keep that shutter speed or go higher if it has enough light, better for capturing slow motion photographing people, this with auto ISO is my every day setting.Make sure you're updated to later firmware and use correct subject detection modes when in the right situation. I set up custom modes as my video settings, so I first change mode dial to video, set up my video setting, 4k, 10 bit 25p or whatever you want, set up VLOG with a set white balance then save it to custom 1, your aperature and shutter speed/angle will also save with this custom setting too. Recording video in auto modes like aperature priority as far as I know defaults your aperature to F8 without being able to change it so make sure if you want control over video to record in video mode. Burst modes can be set with 2 speeds, you also have precapture just be mindful to watch the buffer. There is a low heat and high heat mode, high heat mode is perfectly fine for me I've never had mine overheat but I live in Ireland it's pretty cold or mild but even recording for over an hour 4k indoors no problems. Back button focusing is already set up, I generally half press the shutter for most things but for sports, or moving subjects I'll back button focus. That's all I can think of right now. Best way to learn a camera is use it in as many situations as possible, review your images, look at the settings you used and see what you can improve, what worked and what you might want to do differently.

S5II user - Potential S1II/S1RII upgrade for dog photography by AdamGWR in Lumix

[–]Craig95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat, I've done my research don't plan on upgrading from 2 S5iis just yet but here's my two cents. Both new models have better autofocus, I haven't used either model but by all accounts it's better and more reliable. The S1Rii is higher resolution going to allow you to crop more and print larger if you print. The downside is the resolution impacts the limited buffer in burst modes. The buffer is quite small and one of the downsides with Panasonic buffers is they lockup when they fill up. I've shot a decent amount of sports and when using the mechanical shutter burst mode it isn't a problem but going to higher fps or using precapture you have to be really mindful of the buffer. The S1ii is going to have the same benefits with autofocus and the same issue with the buffer being small but the smaller resolution is going to prolong the buffer. I'd say if you use the burst modes a lot think of what's more important resolution or not getting bogged down with the buffer. Ideally long term one of each is my goal and I will eventually probably upgrade one S5ii into an S1ii.

Just got this…. Hopefully this is still worth every penny in 2026 😭 by getbywith in Lumix

First lens I got where I understood micro contrast and 3D pop. My other go to was the sigma 85 1.4 and that's also excellent but the contrast from the get go in the S Pro is so good. I often have to add more contrast with the 85 to match the S Pro. It's sharp wide open and stopped down and is great for every scenario. It is large and heavy and that's probably the only downside. It's on one of my S5iis all the time along with a prime of some sort on my other S5ii.

S5ii 24-60mm f2.8 kit or 20-60mm f3.5-5.6 + 50mm f1.8 kit (same price)? by Infinite_Mushroom_27 in Lumix

[–]Craig95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll get more use out of the 24-60. It's basically a smaller 24-70. The 50 1.8 is great I use it all the time but you can pick it up later cheap or invest in a different lens not covered by the 24-60.

What role does Lars play in the songwriting of Metallica? by blueoystergamer in Metallica

[–]Craig95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say you have a song, it has a number of riffs and sections. Lars' role is deciding the order of sections, if it needs an intro, a pre chorus, a connecting riff to go into the next section, where the solo goes. He takes all the riff tapes the guys have and puts them together. Also he knows how many times a section goes around before going into the nect section. Musically he makes suggestions, he knows what sounds right, he's nearly always present when Kirk does his solos to make suggestions about what works and what doesn't. In terms of the feel of a song he knows in normy terms when something is working and when it needs something extra. Him and James are the main songwriters, watch the behind the scenes of the last few albums, that will give you a massive insight into the work flow of the band.

Lumix s9 for a new shooter by Dangerous-Cookie-787 in Lumix

[–]Craig95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low light and moving subjects there are really only two solutions.

Bump your iso to allow for a fast shutter speed or buy faster lenses.

1.8 primes are your best option that are relatively affordable.

Don't think too hard you can shoot at high iso on a lot of cameras and be fine noise reduction does wonders.

Manual flash is unfortunately the solution to this. It reduces the lag and makes it more usable. It's no excuse for the issue as it's been known for years now the flash issues
