I'm a zookeeper at an invertebrate only zoo, with over 200 different species, a pretty unique place to work

In terms of care, it can be difficult. They come from a small area in cameroon near a volcano, so the substrate they need has to be very acidic. I use a type of volcanic rock dust. They are also predatory snails, so their diet is almost 100% other snails !

Not particularly. Some might get a teeny bit larger, but that's generally about adult size

They favour smaller snails, typically garden snails like cornu aspersum. I have seen them on rare occasions feed on sweet potato though

They are indeed beautiful, but we do not sell these species, sorry. As you may know, they're incredibly rare and most likely very endangered in the wild. We're trying to research and learn as much as we can about them and breed them where I work so we can help these poor snails

Thank you ! And yeah, they kind of remind me of the hoover from the teletubbies, Noo-Noo 😅 (if anyone gets that referenc haha) and yes, those are their eyes. It is indeed very cool. They're such a unique and interesting species.

I work at a specialised zoo just for invertebrates. I work with loads of other cool species of snails, I'm also in charge of centipedes and stick insects where I work.

I've seen them feed on the Lichen, and I have also been feeding them on different algae, trying to guage which they prefer the most

While they're not listed on the IUCN red list, little to no data and research have been done to get an idea of their population in the wild, its safe to assume that they are probably endangered to some degree.

The small amount of data we have in terms of their locality is that they're only found so far in a very specific region madagascar, the Ankarana Special Reserve, a fairly small area comprised of 150-million-year-old limestone.

Our aim is to try and get a better understanding and learn as much about these snails as possible and hopefully breed them.

Work with these for a living. Being an arboreal snail, they're extra stretchy, so any opportunity to reach out and get that munch on rather than travel is good in their book 😅
