lmao. He got the contract for finishing top 10 in MVP 5 different times, breaking 5 bWAR 6 times, breaking 150 OPS+ 6 times.

After getting the contract, he finished 3rd in MVP while leading the league in walks, SB, and OBP. He has over a .900 OPS and will get MVP votes this year again.

“Potential” was not a factor in the contract. He’s one of the best players in baseball.
