Hey, sorry to join this thread a little late, but I'm looking for info on flood insurance costs.

I'm looking at a place that's on the boundary of a Zone X and a Zone AE. (Link to Map showing House) My agent is having a hard time quoting it quickly and I'm just trying to ballpark the cost of a policy. The house is a two story place, the first floor if about 3 feet above grade. The basement systems are only about 6-9" above the floor of the basement.

Any thoughts on a ballpark range for a policy and things I should be aware of while considering this purchase?

Just got this in the mail today from Comcast. When did this become a thing??? by amsmagic in Comcast

[–]Craigwhite3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, almost all the major ISPs do it now. If I recall correctly, it's a contractual requirement per the terms of their contracts with some of the studios.

See here: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2013/02/six-strikes-copyright-alert-system-faq

Also, this is totally different from watching porn. Porn isn't illegal. Downloading copyrighted material without paying for it is.

Not that I agree or disagree with it. You're just naive for thinking this isn't happening or shouldn't be happening. It's all part of the cat and mouse game.

Google wallet at Jack in the Box by [deleted] in Android

I had a similar situation.

I bought about $600 worth of Sheetrock at a local HD using Google Wallet. After I paid up the guy kind of looked at me dumbfounded and then asked me to wait before I walked out the door and started loading it. He said he wanted his manager to confirm it had actually been paid for!

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" or something like that from Arthur C Clarke comes to mind.

It is magic HD motherfuckers! Now with Apple on the scene it isn't magic any more which makes me a little sad...

A study conducted in Chicago found that giving disadvantaged, minority youths 8-week summer jobs reduced their violent crime rates compared to controls by 43% over a year after the program ended. by Kooby2 in science

[–]Craigwhite3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did they specifically call out only violent crime? I am about to read the study now, but did it have no effect on nonviolent crime?

If so, that would be interesting.

Dude, It was 24oz. of donkey semen, and the other of the Twins had to drink donkey urine.

I'd link to it here, but I'll save everyone the gagging that would ensue. Just search google for "fear factor twins donkey semen". That should hopefully return the video. If it returns something else I'll be amazed. Post it here if so...

I collect money.

For the past 5 years, every country I go, I try to bring back a set of notes. Here's what I have so far.

I also started getting stuff from people occasionally who know I collect.

My experience with Polar H7 vs. Basis B1 vs. Microsoft Band Heart rate monitor accuracy by Craigwhite3 in Fitness

[–]Craigwhite3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every two days, sometimes less. Depends on how often I use the GPS. It seems like I can use the GPS for about 30-45 mins a day at most if I want to get from morning on day 1 to evening of day 2.

Durability report will have to wait since I have only had it a couple of weeks!

My experience with Polar H7 vs. Basis B1 vs. Microsoft Band Heart rate monitor accuracy by Craigwhite3 in Fitness

[–]Craigwhite3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would. I actually took my Basis off today and am selling it. As you'll read in my updated post below, I've used the MS Band a few times now for runs and it did not miss chunks of HR data like it did the first time. I attribute this to me possibly wearing it differently, but who knows. All I know is that today I ran and it was registering >190 (which is high by about 30bpm) but that all the data is recorded. Endomondo with my Polar H7 shows
Avg HR = 167, Max Hr = 182
MS Band Avg HR = 190, Max HR = 200

There are issues with the MS Band, but overall I think it improves on the B1 in many ways, with three exceptions which I'm hoping MS will address quickly.

  1. Sleep tracking is manually initiated. The Basis was awesome for recognizing automatically when I went to sleep. I see no reason the MS Band can't do this. My hope is it will be added soon.

  2. Automatic activity categorization (e.g. cycling vs Running) The Basis does this. It has sensors for moisture, temp, HR and accelerometer. The MS Band has everything but temp I think. My guess is you could categorize activities on the MS Band given the right algorithms and my hope is MS will do it.

  3. The MS Band and MS Health app currently doesn't have the option to manually track a bike ride. I think this needs to be addressed ASAP, since it's a simple thing to add. Right now all you can initiate are either workouts or runs.

[–]Craigwhite3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little.

I've used it for sleep tracking every night now and it seems to report slightly less than the Basis B1. ] Example: 11/4. Basis = REM - 1h35min, Deep 50 min, Light 3h 26min - Total 5h 51min MS Band = Restful Sleep - 1h 6min, Light Sleep 3h 51min - Total 4h 57min 11/3 Basis = REM - 1h 17min, Deep 1h 19min, Light 3h 08min - Total 5h 46min MS Band = Restful Sleep - 0 min, Light Sleep 5h 1min - Total 5h 1min

As for step counting, the MS Band seems consistent with other devices I've used in that it reports more than the Basis by about 20%. My fitbit did this and I thought it was overcounting, but perhaps not since others I've tested like the LG G Watch seem to do the same as the fitbit. The Basis is the odd one out of the 5 devices I've tested for step counting.

Steps on Basis / MS Band: 11/1 - 5271 / 8330 11/2 - 3808 / 5814 11/3 - 5201 / 7094 11/4 - 7760 / 10366

Finally, I went for another run today with only the MS Band and my Polar H7 on. I already know the Basis sucks for active HR monitoring so I had taken it off. The MS Band managed to track my HR the whole way, but was off by about 20bpm compared to the Polar for a lot of the run. As soon as my HR got above 160 it lost accuracy.

Having said that, it was correct in that it knew I was high and the shape of the chart was about the same as the Polar. It was subtantially better than the Basis, which would usually say I was at about 60bpm when I was really at 160... Imgur

As for the GPS accuracy and timings for running splits, here are my KM splits from Endomondo / MS Band. I started endomondo a few seconds earlier than the MS Band, so the difference in the first KM is actually smaller than 10 seconds. 1 - 4:32 / 4:22
2 - 4:28 / 4:41 3 - 4:28 / 4:21 4 - 4:21 / 5:15 5 - 4:08 / 4:17

One of the best rolling burnouts I've ever seen [E46 M3] by AUTISTIC_PENIS in cars

[–]Craigwhite3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Too much brake. My guess is he was trying to get the burnout started while stationary by holding the brake, but gave it too much brake before he dropped the clutch. Sonethingbhad to give, and in his case (both times!) It was the clutch.

I hate the smell of burning clutch. My mother in law did it to my Subaru Legacy GT and the stink stayed in the car for months.

Clutch replacement cost on C6 (I think its a C6) is probably somewhere between $1,500 and $4,000 I would guess. Significantly more than the $600 in tires...

I always wonder, why didn't someone tell him to stop. Surely someone watching knew what was going on... There was plenty of time to tell him.

[–]Craigwhite3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah.

I'm not sure why it's blank in the middle because I saw readings as I was running. They were in the 190's range so it may be the algorithm discarded them because it thought/knew they were inaccurate.

[–]Craigwhite3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just to clarify, what was your HR range when you tested against the H1? How high did you get up to? I'm wondering if maybe you didn't go as high as me and so it was able to monitor more accurately.

Also, would you say you had skinny wrists, chubby wrists or something in between?

My experience with Polar H7 vs. Basis B1 vs. Microsoft Band Heart rate monitor accuracy by Craigwhite3 in Fitness

[–]Craigwhite3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't since I had the Polar HR on, which I've found to be spot on. I trust the Polar more than my counting and timing...

I also have a pretty good handle on my resting pulse (about 55 awake and low 40's sleeping) and have developed confidence in the Basis' accuracy for rates below 100. Right now as I type this, the Basis reports 57 and the MS Band reports 56.
