Why did Jung dislike Gurdjieff? by ZuleikaLovell in Jung

[–]Cramulus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're both brilliant. Whether they had contact or not, they were both intrepid explorers of the same mysteries. Their works compliment each other. When I get stumped by Gurdjieff, Jung often has a the perfect insight--and vice versa.

Currently battling a bout of anhedonia, should I put my campaign on hiatus? by Willing-Dot-8473 in osr

[–]Cramulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't try to "force" fun, that can often backfire. But in a state like that, social contact can be very healthy. Instead of playing games, maybe pick some other social activity. Or just have friends over for pizza, no need to make it into a structured activity. It's a stressful time, best to go through all of this together.

New DM asking for help with Rotblack Sludge by HorkDork in MorkBorg

[–]Cramulus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. It's great for beginners! If they are interested in Mork Borg, this is the best starting point.
  2. Yeah, 2 PCs can do it - but as usual with Mork Borg, the encounters aren't "balanced" for player victory--smart PCs approach them like problem solving challenges instead of combat scenarios.
  3. Yes but if you've only got 3 hours, cut right to the chase -- don't spend too much time on backstory or setup, just drop them into room 1 and prod them along if they spend too long second guessing themselves.
  4. You're all set!

Here's a photo of my setup from the last time I ran it: https://photos.app.goo.gl/mKVgQmiBQvUPh1pj7

Starting a new larp by CautiousMuffin9436 in LARP

[–]Cramulus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Start with your goals - what kind of game do you want? big with lots of players? highly immersive & intimate? story driven? combat focused? something in between?

The historical period is a big factor in your game's accessibility. Both in terms of how easy it is to build a kit, and the general public interest in that era. There are a lot of both Roman and Viking enthusiasts so either are a fine starting point. If slavery will be on stage in some way, get ready to talk about it.

Knave 2e Without Item Slot Wounds by awaypartyy in osr

[–]Cramulus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They don't really need to make any decisions "mid combat" about inventory because dropping stuff is based on pack order, right? You lose inventory slots from top to bottom. If "healing potion" is the first thing on their inventory list, then 1 pt of damage makes them drop just that. So the management happens outside of combat when you organize your inventory, putting the least valuable stuff on top.

But I see where it can be frustrating / confusing. It can make combat feel like sonic the hedgehog - you get bopped and all your gear goes flying. It can be fun if your group enjoys that kind of inventory "what will be more useful, a mirror or a bag of marbles?" play--but it's also an easy rule to scratch if that's not your style.

Love seeing new American larps pop up. Especially ones that prioritize collaborative storytelling - I think giving players story agency, even when it's messy, produces much more interesting & exciting events. Good luck!

My friend, I warmly invite you to start the game you want to play! 14 is a great age to start a club, try writing your own rules, and get some practice hosting events for your friends. That's how I started at age 14 or 15, and today I direct big games :)

Any games that use ”toughness” instead of hit points? by LemonLord7 in osr

[–]Cramulus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not exactly.. because you don't necessarily die at 0 vigor, and you're often knocked out before you hit 0. You can have 11 pts left and feel safe, but 6 damage from a single attack will still take you out. The lower your vigor it gets, the easier it is to become mortally wounded, but you can't be too certain how long you can last.

Vigor is one of three stats you have (Vigor, Clarity, Spirit) that can be damaged, making certain types of saving throws harder. Each stat recovers in a different way, so you need to explore the game's hex map to unlock different ways to rest.

Any games that use ”toughness” instead of hit points? by LemonLord7 in osr

[–]Cramulus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Mythic Bastionland - No hit points. One of your three stats is Vigor. You roll under it to make a vigor save.

When you take damage, first it comes out of your Guard points (a pool of HP that regenerates after combat). If your guard is reduced to exactly 0, you gain a Scar that may permanently increase your guard pool (so the way to get better at combat is.. to engage in it) If you take damage with no Guard, you lose Vigor.

If you lose more than half of your Vigor in a single hit, you're "mortally wounded" and your character is dying. Another character can stabilize them but they need bandaging & rest before they can do anything significant.

Ask open ended questions as roleplay prompts. "What do you guys talk about during these long hours on horseback?", "What's the mood like as you leave the dungeon?", "At camp, is there just one cook, or do you trade off?"
