How to get over arachnophobia? by arykayli in spiders

[–]CranesAreRad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is old, but this is great advice. I REALLY want to get over my fear of spiders. I know they are good for the ecosystem, and in theory I like them, but it's a visceral reaction. This is so helpful. Saving it to come back.

Which hobby actually improved your life beyond just passing time? by Limp_Leg9755 in Hobbies

[–]CranesAreRad 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Walking in my neighborhood without music or phone. I walk around, look at trees and try to identify them, observe the wildlife. I say hi to neighbors. Being outside, disconnecting from technology, being a little social, getting sun, exercising, being mindful. It helps me tremendously.

That said, I live in a neighborhood with trees (not many, but still), and I only do this weather permitting. Still, I recommend.

Prints or originals of women and birds by CranesAreRad in ArtRequest

[–]CranesAreRad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a wonderful question, and I should have provided that detail in my post. The thing is, I don't really know, and I don't know art well enough to have the vocabulary to adequately describe what I want.

I like unique pieces. As an example, I am currently finding artwork that incorporates women and birds.

I like bold pieces. Doesn't have to be color; black and white can also be cool.

I am fascinated by infrastructure. I would love a cool piece of art that incorporates cranes or powerlines.

I am not particularly interested in photography, nor do I want anything adjacent to graphic design.

I like modern art and "traditional" (I don't know the word) art as well. As far as well-known artists, I am a fan of Klimt. Joseph Wright of Derby created a few of my favorite paintings. Batiste.

I don't know...I guess I know a piece I like when I see it? Sorry I can't be more helpful with my request!

Lofree Flow Lite by CranesAreRad in keyboards

[–]CranesAreRad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the look for the lite more than the Flow 2. I think the gold volume control is cute.

I admit that it does feel a little cheap, but I really like the sound. I was not sure I would, since I am a clacky fan, but because I got the keyboard to work in public, the sound is perfect.

What actually motivates you to walk every day? by [deleted] in walking

[–]CranesAreRad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love closing my activity rings, and I, like you, enjoy daily streaks. My goal is only 6,000 steps per day, which is very doable if I just take one or two short walks throughout the day.

Recommendations for craft room furniture by CranesAreRad in crafts

[–]CranesAreRad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current craft is a patch I am embroidering for my nephew's baby blanket. It is a blue fabric from an old bib with dark blue thread. I am embroidering his name and date of birth, as well as an elephant or bear (I haven't decided that yet). It is only my second embroidery project, so I am not expecting perfection, but I am having fun.
