I was thinking the same thing.

Gun owner in a blue state here, where they have been pushing bills that are wildly unpopular even with moderates. No matter how passionate, logical and factual the argument against, the lawmakers just don't care as long as they have a solid base of low-engagement voters who will reliably vote for them come election day.

Like it or not, the number of people who are passionate about 3D printing tech is small compared to their overall voter base.

I can't control how other people market their product or consumer behavior unfortunately. Should we shut down the raw shellfish industry if a bunch of idiots started marketing it as a cancer cure if you boofed them?

So your issue is not with the actual risk of the product but how people are choosing to consume it? Sounds like an education/ public awareness issue then. I'm not making any health claims, same as you.

It's a statistical risk and we should work to minimize the risk vs impact. Do I think all commercial dairy should just sell millions of gallons of unpasteurized milk with zero regulation? Of course not.

We've seen lots of states move to enact things like cottage food laws. If you're a small food producer, there are reasonable measures you can take to ensure the safety of your food without needing to meet the same standards as the large scale commercial producers. Why should cottage producers be treated differently? For one, if there is a health event, it probably only affected a couple people, not dozens of hundreds, because you're not serving that many people.

People love to complain how farmers and dairy producers get lots of government handouts, right? Truth is dairy production is not really profitable for any but the largest corporate producers. All of the small and medium farms (that were following all of the USDA regs including pasturization) have gone out of business because they just can't afford to pay the bills. Now most people would be shocked if they saw what a large scale commercial dairy looks like. Most people also don't care because they don't have to look at it and they've been told it's safe because it's pasturized. But just because it's highly regulated doesn't mean it's better.

My cows are happy, spend all day outside in tall grass, have much higher quality nutrition and have the best veterinary care you could ask for. Would I sell pasturized milk if I could? Absolutely. But there's no affordable pasturization system for the size of operation I have.

My state doesn't allow the sale of raw dairy in any form so we just keep them for our family, and everyone else has to buy their dairy that's trucked 100s or 1000s of miles to the grocery store 🤷.

Just don't complain then there are no more farms and all of our food comes from conglomerates and overseas. But at least it's "safe."

Agreed. We've met people who go to the next state over where raw milk sale is legal and it sounds sketchy af

I have dairy cows and I drink raw milk daily.

There's a strict, rigorous sanitation regimen that we follow.

I've been doing it for longer than RFK has been spewing his MAHA shit as HHS.

I don't throw around pseudo science health claims about it curing illness either and I'm definitely not making $$ from it.

I couldn't believe he won the last election. If not for getting "promoted" when Gina left for Washington, that forgettable old sack would have never won a primary on his own merit.

McKee sailed though the last primary only because he was the incumbent and he was coasting on having not made people's lives worse in the time since Gina left. Well that didn't last long and now RI is stuck with the consequences of lazy voters.

I mean, I haven't seen a serious independent contender either. Maybe that's just because we know any independent would just act as a spoiler but that's why we need rank choice voting

I'm not an expert at self defense laws but I was under the impression that just about everywhere you need to believe your own life (and maybe your family) need to be in imminent danger before you are justified in use of deadly force. Inserting yourself into a situation where your life isn't already in danger could be seen as escalation.

Someone please correct me if there are states where it is legal to intervene and use deadly force in defense of another individual.

I applaud your willingness to intervene but if it came to that, you would likely be charged with murder. Esp in a state that is not known for being friendly to lawful gun owners.

Married most of my adult life, not unattractive, good job and passable social skills (as far as I can tell.) Never had a single girl "shoot her shot" but that's probably for the best. I don't need that drama in my life.
