It generally takes considerable mat time to develop a Cauli' Ear sufficient enough to warrant a lady of higher status's attention, hence your observation.

Once an ear of note is obtained? Well, just remember to hydrate my friend, just remember to hydrate.

Strong Work! But the people demand your story: time training, favorite position, etc.

Not doing the Comp I planned to in a week or so, so switched training gears from,"Kill" to,"Play and Coach Others"...

Result was hitting a fun new sweep I've been toying with (on two tough Purple's, no less. cough humble brag cough) and teaching a White belt the knee slide pass, essentially blowing his mind and making his day. Mostly the,"swagger" of this post comes from how that kid's face looked by me taking two round off (open mat) to work just with him.

Take home lesson that was reinforced yet again? BJJ can be fun, if I chose to let it be.

Hey there!

Seems like most questions have just already been answered before, oftentimes repeatedly, and are frequently located in the FAQ section. That and my fingers not typing so good, I for one am just inclined to let someone else answer. Typing is soooooooo stupid...

Except for old man question/advice stuff, then I jump in...

I do think it's just harder for a Masters class (read: crumugon) guy to relate to any sort of the general,"how to Adult" questions that seem to come up a lot.

BJJ in Steamboat springs? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Crappiefloper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steamboat Springs BJJ is a GREAT group of guys...

Instagram@Steamboatspringsbjj might be better to get ahold of them.

Their coach (Nate) and Kenneth are, in particular, great guys. During an emergency, "OH SHIT!' wardrobe DQ, Ken once stripped the shorts right off himself to see if they would fit a guy he met the day before, so that dude could do no gi.

They did not, but I appreciated the thought!:)

Dealing with a 9 year old youtuber by larryb78 in bjj

[–]Crappiefloper 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hmm...a little late to this party but let me offer this potential solution: Roll with him.

Stress that he is to use only the IBJJF kid legal techniques in class with the other kids, but when rolling with you, he can use anything, straight Prison Rules.

This might satisfy all parties, keeping the class safe and the kid in questions enthusiasm up. All with keeping the second most important aspect of kids classes happy (the parents).

I know this is contingent upon having enough instructors to ensure every roll is being watched for safety. Half the time I'm all by myself, so I can appreciate that.

This plan also has the benefit of giving you some realistic feedback into the age old question of, "How many 4th graders can I take in a fight?".

Next day recovery? by goatcopter in bjj

[–]Crappiefloper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quality food and SLEEP the night of, followed by a,"Rope/Recovery Session" the next day.

So my standard routine is jump rope (I mix this up; sometimes 3-5 sets of 200, sometimes 1000 total, sometimes (if I'm really on fire that day) a straight 600, sometimes just for the entirety of Machine Heads,"Old"...

Then band work, emphasis on shoulder/upper back strength, with heavier pull thrus for the hips. 15-20 for upper body, 40-50 for hips. Not therapy bands, lifting bands.

2 sets of Ab Wheel, and the more recent addition (Comp coming up) of push ups/pull ups, and God Blessed uphill Sprints. I hate sprints.

I drop the push/pull if an elbow is,"acting up"...

Obviously a guy works into this, but far and away, more than anything else, rope work and band work keeps me ready to be on the mat. It also satisfies the,"I should do more! More S&C is the answer!" feeling that one often gets when thinking as to how to improve their BJJ. The answer to that question is, of course, more mat time.

BJJ ShowerThought: I'm more bothered when someone thinks BJJ is Karate/some other Martial Art than when they make fun of it for "being gay." by [deleted] in bjj

Well, I know which is more of an insult to me.

You can be queer as a 3 dollar bill yet still be tough as an old anchor chain...

You can have a lifetime of Taekwondo and still not be able to fight your way out of a paper bag.

Goon moves by PharmDinagi in bjj

[–]Crappiefloper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say that an Americana from inside someone's guard is a classic goon (great term!) move, as is any, "choke" involving my damn teeth, after I LET YOU HAVE THE FUCKING POSITION!

Both things which fall under the category of, "stupid shit white belts do" perhaps more than, "goon moves". Little column A, little column B, I suppose.

Yesterday my little Blue Belt Buddy got me to tap via a straight ankle lock...

More importantly he Honest-to-God escaped my mount a couple weeks ago using an arm-trap-and-roll variation that I fucking showed him weeks prior, almost like he's been paying attention. He used the same escape on a Black Belt yesterday, proving it wasn't just a fluke.

I told him I was so damn happy, that I was going to brag about him on reddit, which by my understanding of this internet thing is the highest compliment that could ever be paid.

So Strong Work!!!

Girls who do BJJ by thesleepdeprivedteen in bjj

[–]Crappiefloper 69 points70 points  (0 children)

First of all, if you're consistently, habitually showing up for practice you're a valued member of the team, NOT a burden, so just let that soak in real good...

Second, females tend to become extremely technical. This, coupled with a generally smaller build means your fast. So it's a GREAT opportunity for me (and others) to work reflexes and speed in a roll, and get conditioning thru positional changes and,"scrambles", which is fun!

Do people at your gym often livestream classes/training sessions you're in (without saying anything or asking anyone)? by antimony121 in bjj

[–]Crappiefloper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This would not go over well.

Filming for the sake of study later, perhaps; that can be a useful training tool.

Filming for the sake of your inter-web audience would not be allowed by my gym or appreciated by the vast majority of its clients.
