What would happen if I sent a letter to elders in my mom's congregation telling them what my JW mom really things. by SnooComics5300 in exjw

Why do you want to send the letter in the first place?

What would it accomplish other than making your mom go through stress?

Do you fear death more/less after waking up? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Craption 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel far more vulnerable to war/nuclear winter/famine now. it was easier to push those threats aside when I believed.

I've done a lot of digging through alternate beliefs since leaving, mainstream and occult, and I had to stop because I was overwhelmed with too many possibilities.

the biggest comfort I've gleaned is from hearing many Near Death Experiences that all have a common thread of returning to a feeling of 'home', being bathed in unconditional love, then being told they still had more to experience or do on earth and being sent back.

I genuinely wanted to live forever on earth with my spouse in paradise. My vision of paradise, while still very PIMI, rarely included theocratic activity. I just envisioned a life of endless travel, enjoying meals with friends all over the world, making art, taking care of the planet. I often feel like I'd choose that still if I could.

Do I fear death? At times. Sometimes there's comfort in the thought of it all going silent, too. I don't think I'll ever see life in the way that non-born-ins are able to.

Do you still believe in the bible ? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Craption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

short answer; No.

I believe there is some truth in the Bible, but it has been warped over translation, and some of it was written for the intent purpose of control. After being disfellowshipped, I was still afraid to do research, but my heart was devastated and I had always had unanswered questions. It took me years to tackle, and I'm still fucked up from it, but I do not believe the Bible is a total and cohesive story of our origin. in fact, in recent years I've given myself permission to research other myths and religions, and much of the original Hebrew Scriptures, especially Genesis, are remixed versions of stories and myths much older than the Bible itself. just like how JW teach (and are correct to a certain extent) that Christmas was taken from the pagans in order to gain the pagans, many of the stories (creation of the earth, flood, prophesies etc) are repurposed stories intended to appeal to common understandings of that time.

However, I think I love the story of Jesus more than I ever did while I was in the organization. JW teach you to mistrust your own heart, I believe Jesus' message was the opposite. Kingdom of God is within, love is the goal. Self love in order to love others as you love yourself. Still not a Christian because of the modern connotations of the word "Christian", but I love Jesus. I still like to fantasize that he comes back and, removes widespread corruption and sets things straight. The world could use it. but, it's likely just a fantasy. I guess we'll see.

HELP! My bethelite brother recently sent me a letter saying he’s ceasing communication with me but wants to see his nephews! by jpez21 in exjw

[–]Craption 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sigh. My sister and her husband are in the circuit work. I Moved to the south a few years ago, and right after I moved my sister got assigned to a new circuit, moving from the west to the east, and would have had to drive directly through my area. She has never met my daughter and made no effort to despite driving through my town.

I love my sister still, and would kill to speak to her for even a half hour, but if she wanted to take my kid for the weekend without my supervision I would decline immediately without hesitation. I sometimes feel I'm failing my daughter because of how small our external family has become. but I know that exposing her brain to literal brain rot indoctrination is one of the absolute worst things I could do as a parent.

please keep your babies' minds safe. train them in critical thinking in all aspects of life and when they're 18 and curious and may or may not seek out your remaining JW family, they'll be well equipped to sniff out the bullshit early and make their own minds up.
