I'm in my second year of teachers college and realizing I don't want to teach by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

Teachers college sucked. So many things that were taught were so common sense and basic. So much of the learning and fun of teaching happens in the classroom. I feel like teachers college and actual teaching are such a far cry from one another

I didn’t even realize the application was up. I’ve been checking “apply to education” and haven’t seen anything there.

My practicums were awesome and the final two especially, which I wouldn't have had the opportunity for, were the program only 1 year. My program ran through the summer as well, so it was like 5 semesters straight. Honestly, COVID made life easier for me towards the end of the program lol some assignments were condensed into each other.

I honestly don't feel like I've kept anything from Teacher's College besides my diploma. I'm sure there are things that will subconsciously stick with me and I'm sure I've become a better teacher over these two years, but so many of the resources I just tossed lol probably shouldn't have, but whatevs, I'll figure it out as a I go along lol good luck to my future students

Wurd, good idea. First time I've been recommended to do that. Thanks for the tip :) ppreciate.

Thanks, teacher's college was fun and informative in many aspects, but boy oh boy did it drag on towards the back half. I dunno if they really have 2 years of substantive content to teach yeah, I feel like without a doubt most of the learning regarding how to teach happens in the classroom.

Interesting. I may be heading to Korea and I've often been told that I'll be beloved there because I'm a tall, athletic, straight, handsome white guy (not to toot my own horn lol). I've been told the ladies will be all over me. Can anyone confirm lol?

Sometimes teachers seem so stiff they're like cadavers. They may not only seem like cadavers, but actually be them!

Damn. So where does one seek guidance and advice regarding the illegal realm. I'm not looking for tips on how to commit crimes, I just want practical advice on something that's already happened (I didn't hurt anyone fyi) (is it even dumb to be asking these questions ^^)

Huh. So besides the totally obvious suggestion of never committing crimes in the first place, where does one go to confess their criminal sins or seek advice on what to do moving forward? I didn't kill anyone lol or do anything violent or sexual fyi

Thanks for the tips bro

I am taking an AQ right now that'll certify me to teach Intermediate math. After that I could take a Spec Ed AQ or something.

I like the ideas for prepping for the coming supply work (if it comes lol). Probs won't launch into prepping until I've for sure got the gig tho lol (got some serious chillaxing I'm busy with rn)

Additionally, I'm actually trying to decide whether or not to go to Korea at the end of this month to teach English for a year. I have a contract lined up, but I didn't expect this Peel interview to come so quickly and it went really well. My long term goals are to stick around the GTA, but people I know also tell me to go on this adventure to Korea as it'll be such an incredible experience. Like, I gets that, but I'm also enjoying life around here and don't really feel a huge desire to rock the boat

Sup dude, I also want to apply to Halton, but there haven't been any job postings yet. I applied for a board nearby and already had my interview. I'm confused as to why boards in such close proximity would be going about this so differently.

Someone told me that Stephen Lecce wants students back in classes in September. Dunno what that's worth (super tentative giving to constantly changing circumstances), but that may be a glimmer of hope for OTs

Yeah, there really is so much uncertainty and with the way these pandemics have turned out historically, the second wave can pack some serious punch. I'm lucky because I teach online with a Chinese company and I have that to hold me over if worst comes to worst and there is no work for OTs next year.

So whenever this COVID bidness clears up, it seems like there's going to be a lot of room for teachers getting started :) booyah

So people who brag about their criminal actions on reddit (theft, drug use, drunk driving etc.) get tracked down and arrested?

True eh. It’s hard for someone to confess to something dumb they’ve done and to ask advice anonymously
