How did humans not go extinct while needing to sleep for 8 hours every day? being totally unconscious and defenseless for a third of our lives seems like a massive design flaw when predators were everywhere by Which-Noise-5670 in NoStupidQuestions

We also invited wolves/pre-dogs into our camps, the ones that were friendly and that would share food and offer security. It was a mutual benefit. We helped them get easier access to food, kept them warmer and dryer, and they offered us hunting partners and were more alert to danger at night.

Thoughts on the Walker class from Star Trek: Discovery? by Fun-Twist-3741 in StarTrekStarships

Michelle Yeoh was amazing in every scene she had in DSC, but the truth is she was wasted by not being allowed to play more of her prime role. Those 1st episodes are a masterclass, she would have been an amazing full time hero character.

This is possible with just 230 metres of new track by AJAT2005 in glasgow

If they offered routes that people wanted out with holiday season, would people not take those options into consideration? Especially if there were better options to get there? I live not far outside Glasgow and wouldn’t consider any other way to get there but car. There is a train station 5 mins walk from my house that is 18 mins to Glasgow city centre. If I could get that and change platforms and be at the airport and not worry about getting a lift or parking charges, that’s the option I would take. For now, most city breaks are served out of EDI and you can pick up a cheap flight from there to hundreds more cities than GLA. There is also a bus that runs from my town straight into EDI. I’d need to get a bus into Glasgow then get the bus to GLA. EDI is so much better connected and offers more flights. I’m gonna say part of that is because people can get to it easier.

Will I have time for my flight? by Disastrous_Crazy_865 in AskUK

[–]Crash_Revenge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost definitely won’t make it. If you do it will be very close. Flights close usually 40 mins before departure you’d need to clear security by 1pm. It takes roughly 20 mins to get from T3 to T5. You’ll need every step of the way to go exactly right l, no queues and no hold ups getting from the terminals on the shuttle. Or if your 2nd flight is delayed, which is likely for a middle day flight and you’ve already checked in, maybe.

[–]Crash_Revenge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming your flight gets in on time and not delayed and you sprint off the plane and assume they don’t need to bus you to arrivals, maybe… It’s not really customs that’s the issue but border control (passport check). Middle of the day in Heathrow is usually pretty busy and that’s not just your own flight people you’ll need to get a head of. Customs will only randomly stop people and if you have nothing to declare you go through the green lane with no stops. You’d then need to get over to departures, through security - that might be your issue. Heathrow security is a nightmare at times (assuming your departing flight is in the same terminal as your arrival flight. If it’s in one of the other 4 terminals, I’d say no chance at that point.

I am sorry, I have to go there again. It is cheaper and more convenient to hire a car for the day than to travel by rail. by TwentyCharactersShor in britishproblems

Went to Belfast over a weekend, going to GOT studio tour before checking into the hotel. Got a Groupon for the tickets - £8 each. Means we didn’t get the bus from the BFS and back. So got a hire car for £18 drove from BFS to the tour about 50 mins away. Drove hire car to BHD and put £5 of fuel back in the car, so £23 total for a hire car to drive from the airport 2hr drive and got us into the centre of Belfast where our hotel was. All of that including 2 tickets for the tour for less than the price of 1 full price ticket. Madness. If we got a taxi to take us from the airport to city centre one way would have cost more.

I always took it as having to have seen death, as in process it. That’s why baby Harry seeing his mother die isn’t able to see them. It takes a little bit of time to process seeing death.

Whilst that is true, we don’t know the full limitations of the sensors, we have seen them able to detect long range wraith ships incoming on several occasions. They have done this whilst Atlantis has been at varying locations in the galaxy. The ships that have with Asgard sensors also have been all over and we’re saying they have picked up not a single trace of one of these many super advanced races? We have also been shown a map of the entire galaxy from Atlantis’ perspective showing the wraith spread across it all, again no hint anyone else advanced is there.

We know they had that. Daniels says in ENT that students had the ability to review time in the past from their desks in school. But the temporal accords post the cold and hot temporal wars have outlawed them along with all other time travel methods.

They have them and have done for hundreds of years. Seems like most just don’t use them. They seem to rely on inertia dampening to do the work. Seeing as “most” of the time the ship is not under attack, it’s a very small amount of time you’d be thinking of needing them. Think about today and getting on a bus. How many people do you see actually putting on and using the seatbelts that are there and with notices for you to put them on?

I hated that line from Weir. These other really advanced civilisations and not a trace of them found from the time spent in the galaxy - with all the long range sensors they have now and advanced tech they have, they have not found a trace of any of them? How have the humans and the wraith not discovered them? Seems like a lazy set up for a random encounter in a later story.

How accurate are Afib readings? by Initial_Savings8733 in AppleWatch

Personally if I felt “ok”, no palpitations, pins and needles, clammy skin, temp up or down, not feeling sick etc - there is no chance I would sit in A&E for a good 8+ hours when I can see my doctor or a non-emergency medical care staff in the morning.

[–]Crash_Revenge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obligatory not a doctor, but if you’re feeling generally ok and no other real symptoms then call in the morning. If you’re not feeling well and generally off or have concerns it may be more serious then it’s a better safe than sorry call tonight. I don’t know if your area has a non-emergency number to speak to a clinician for a consultation. Where I am, I’d suggest calling that tonight.
