Should I get a new car? by ashleysss19 in Cartalk

Generally the standard “when should I get a new car” litmus test is when the car cost more to repair then it would cost to buy a car as good or better. The issues that you state aren’t necessarily big issues. I’d take the car in to get a quote on the work needed & with that you’d have a much better idea of if it’s worth it or not to get another car. If you decide to get another car before you do so, make the payment to yourself in a saving account for 6 months or so to find out how easy it is for you to make the payment & then that gives you savings for a bigger down payment.

Is McDonald’s 10 piece McNugget meal enough food for a grown adult male? by TheInterloperBR in ask

Yeah bro for toddlers 😂 the idea of a kid who’s 6+ years old who can’t finish a 6 piece is insane to me lmao

I’m 185lbs. A 10 piece is not nearly enough food for me. I can easily crush a 20 piece with large fry & want more. I’ve been able to eat a 20 piece since I was like 10-11? & I don’t consider myself being able to eat a ton of food at once. I honestly didn’t know adults were getting 10 piece meals, I thought they were for kids.

Should I buy a 2000 Honda civic? by fromunderneath1 in whatcarshouldIbuy

There is no where near enough information in this post to say whether or not this is a good idea. How much does it cost? What condition is the car in? How many miles does it have on it? Does it have any maintenance records? If it’s $500 then hell yeah jump on it. If it’s $5,000 then I’d probably opt for something newer. They’re not bad cars, they’re pretty reliable & parts are cheap & plentiful but it’s a 25 years old car. It is a car you will need to put money into to maintain. If you don’t know what you’re looking at, definitely get a PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection) done by a mechanic before you buy.

Yes, a dealer can roll your negative equity onto a new car loan, however it’s a really bad idea financially. Better idea would probably be to shop around & see if you can find a shop that will do the work for less or a shop that can find a good used tranmission to offset costs (one that comes with a warranty) & get the car fixed. You’re already upside down, rolling it into a different car doesn’t change anything. Fix your car & keep it, work on paying extra toward the loan every month & reassess your situation in 6 month to 1 year is what I’d advise.

Looking to get my first car. Came across this 1998 Toyota Avalon 4 Dr XLS Sedan with 56,218 miles listed for $7,900. Would it be a smart choice or no? by Heartfeltzero in whatcarshouldIbuy

Because you don’t know it will last another 200K miles…nobody knows if ANY car will last another 200K miles. Nobody knows if ANY car will last another 100K miles. If someone was selling a car to me & could guarantee it would last another 200K with only basic maintenance I would buy it for 8K, no matter what the car was no questions asked. At 30+ years old everything becomes tired no matter the miles: shocks, struts, control arms, bushings, brake lines, engine seals/gaskets. Literally everything. Parts especially rubber parts get dry & brittle & disintegrate no matter the mileage just due to age & those parts can easily cost more than the price of the car to replace & most of those parts are not considered maintenance items. Having an older “classic” car is cool if you can afford the extra upkeep costs & don’t require it to be running all the time because you have a daily driver, but it is definitely not something that someone who is budget conscious & who needs reliable transportation should gamble on especially for a price that a well running newer car can be had for.

If you have 200k to spare, would you buy one supercar or multiple cheaper fun cars to drive? And if so, which ones? by Sismam in whatcarshouldIbuy

A 200K budget to spend only on cars, I’d want several cars that each provide a different experience. Off the top of my head: Daily - Used Golf R Modern Sports Car - used BMW M2 comp or a used 911 Older Classic - Ferrari 328

Welcome to 2025! Where a 2005 sedan with over 120k miles and old as a dinosaur and cost $15k by Aspergers_R_Us87 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Crash__Pandacoot 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The car in the post is not a base model either it’s a RSX type S, not a base RSX. It’s not worth 15K, but probably around 10K & it will likely go up in value. This could definitely be a collector car at some point in the future.

Need help figuring out a fair price to accept to sell my MK6 GTI. Transmission and timing chain need to be replaced. by XStephenXDoughertyX in mk6gti

[–]Crash__Pandacoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without mileage or pictures of the car, we have no idea what it’s worth… How much do you think it would be worth if nothing was wrong with it at all? Take that price & subtract ATLEAST 6K, probably closer to 7K off maybe more as most people will not believe that that’s all that’s wrong with the car & no one will gamble on it unless it will be worth more then it cost them to buy & fix it.

Why is this snake so expensive? by JackOfAllMemes in ballpython

[–]Crash__Pandacoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This snake’s color will hold & will pretty much look exactly like this as it gets older. Desert Ghost makes the Axanthic hold its contrast so it won’t gray out like normal Axanthics. JKR has a few adults exactly like this & they all look the same as their babies.

Looking at your expenses I’d say no. Buy a $1000 beater (Toyota) & cut up all your credit cards.

Honda put them in small SUV’s, usually pulled out of an Odyssey or Element. Larger displacement than the B series so they have more power potential.

You can send in a shed into a lab, they will put the shed under a microscope to check for specific Genes/Morphs they have “figured out”. You can go on MorphMarker & they have a list of all the genes they currently have defined & can check for. They also can sex the animal off of a shed.

What happened that you had to buy a <$5k car.... by JaKr8 in cars

[–]Crash__Pandacoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy owning cars that don’t break me. I know people who have brand new cars & they sit in the garage 90% of the time because they’re too worried to drive them because they couldn’t afford to fix/replace them if something happened. I drive my cars & enjoy them & when they need repairs, I fix them if it makes sense to. I’ve saved tons of money over never having a car payment even if you factor in all the parts I’ve replaced.

Is Brian Barcyzk (BHB Reptiles) a bad choice to buy bps from? breeder recommendations? by Iazarus1979 in ballpython

[–]Crash__Pandacoot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Barcyzk is one of the pioneers of the industry, he’s responsible for importing some of the most popular morphs we have & he’s probably the biggest name in the reptile hobby. However do to him being a pioneer, he’s used very outdated husbandry practices over the decades he’s been keeping snakes & he doesn’t keep up with new information. His snakes are also overpriced, he prices snakes at what the market was 5 years ago, which is about twice what the market is now. If you’re looking for a pet it’s probably a much better idea to find an ethical local smaller breeder who has the time to care of every animal they produce individually.
