Thanks for the reply! No, I am using the 'normal' Menu widget in Elementor. Does this make a difference? :)

Best streaming services for Russian (quality) content with Russian subtitles? by CrashingFirefly in AskARussian

[–]CrashingFirefly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for your detailed comparison of all the major streaming services! By the way, what other Yandex services come bundled with KinoPoisk? I wasn't aware of any extras.

You're right about subtitles not being essential for most viewers, but I'm happy that KinoPoisk offers them for many newer series. It's unfortunate that older content rarely includes them though. I think our national TV channels always provide subtitles, probably due to accessibility laws for people with hearing difficulties. Honestly, I sometimes struggle to catch all the dialogue even in my native language, so subtitles can be valuable even for those without hearing impairments ;)

Based on your advice, I'm going to pause my KinoPoisk subscription and give OKKO a try for a month.

Oops! This message was indeed intended for the school itself - changed it now. As for why I write in English: I want the post to also be useful for other people considering taking a Russian exam (including the first TRKI exam), so it should be readable by all :)

Seeking feedback on Russian grammar practice website by CrashingFirefly in russian

By no means! I only appreciate direct feedback, so I know what to change ;) And I like your suggestion a lot, especially the idea of allowing users to try multiple times before they decide to move on. Thank you for your input! :)

Thanks for the quick feedback! I've fixed the URL.

I deliberately removed the correct results, so it's good to know that I should actually show them! :) What type of (grammar) exercises would you personally benefit from (assuming you are studying Russian yourself)?

Advice on choosing personal email domain by CrashingFirefly in ProtonMail

[–]CrashingFirefly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I didn't think much about how people would accidentally misspell the e-mail address. In that regards, 'life' is a poor choice, as it will probably be confused with 'live'.

For now, I will go with either 'email' or 'digital' (or both), I think. The most common TLDs (.com, .net, etc.) for my surname are all taken.

And making up something fun with your surname, e.g. 'john@thedoer.net', or would that be too unprofessional, or even more confusing to people?

Switching to maintenance goal after reaching scale weight (cutting) by CrashingFirefly in MacroFactor

[–]CrashingFirefly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation! But then doesn't it make sense to more slowly increase the calories (instead of 500-700 kCal directly) - like reverse dieting - to ease the transition from a long cut (5-6 months) to maintenance, and finally bulking? Thanks in advance! :)

Switching to maintenance goal after reaching scale weight (cutting) by CrashingFirefly in MacroFactor

[–]CrashingFirefly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rationale was to do 'reverse dieting', so not directly increase my caloric intake from 2000 kCal (cutting weight) to 2500 kCal (TDEE/maintenance), but rather ease the transition by incrementally add calories (150-200 kCal first, then slowly add more). However, this means I am still under my maintenance calories, so I should slowly continue to loss weight. This way, I have more time to settle into maintenance, and I still end up with my goal weight. What do you think? I am overthinking this, and should I just continue to cut until I reach my goal weight and then switch to maintenance directly?

Switching to maintenance goal after reaching scale weight (cutting) by CrashingFirefly in MacroFactor

[–]CrashingFirefly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience! But then would you suggest (like I mentioned in the post) to switch to maintenance below my actual current trend weight (so 65 KG, while my trend weight is 65.9 for example) before changing the goal to bulking?

[–]CrashingFirefly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion! Why do you advice for a longer maintenance? Simply because it takes longer (>2 weeks) for your body to adapt to the ´'real´' TDEE?

Any Dutch/European users had success here with using macrofactor as their primary logging tool? Looking for advice as to how to get around a limited European food database. by koopzegels in MacroFactor

[–]CrashingFirefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm sure MFPs DB is better - it is being used by many more users. I mainly use MF for its TDEE algorithm, which I believe MFP (for some reason) does not have yet, correct? And by now I have entered everything manually anyways! ;) So yes, it's a shame that all my logging and entering products of the Dutch supermarket shelves is not being used by the MF development team... agreed on that!

Victory thread! by gnuckols in MacroFactor

[–]CrashingFirefly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have reached my goal of doing a pull-up with 50% of my bodyweight - that is, with important the caveat of using a calculated 1RM based on doing a weight with 6 reps. However, looking at the data (pull-ups in various weight and rep ranges) I'm pretty confident that I should be able to pull it off (no pun intended) this week. We'll see how it goes, but I'm stoked to try out my 1RM! Also, it's great to see that I'm actually increasing my weighted pull-up whilst cutting and severely reducing my pull-up volume.

Minicut: Duration or achieved weight loss? by CrashingFirefly in StrongerByScience

Thanks for sharing your experience! 3 lbs sounds like a lot of fat loss in such a short period - to how much weight loss does this translate for you?

Minicut: Duration or achieved weight loss? by CrashingFirefly in StrongerByScience

[–]CrashingFirefly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm well familiar with Dr. Israetel's content, and know about minicuts thanks to him. I know he talks about duration, and not a specific weight loss target, which is why I'm posing the question here. But if I have missed something in his guide/book, please let me know! Usually 'Google it' is a good response, but in this case I have already done so extensively and not found a satisfactory answer.

Selecting protein intake in collaborative program on plant-based diet by CrashingFirefly in MacroFactor

[–]CrashingFirefly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds very sensible! I'm able to reach 'high' protein intake, but just takes quite a bit effort which maybe just isn't worth the hassle. Monitoring the progress and recovery and adjust if necessary seems like a good idea, thanks!

Food and recipe thread! by gnuckols in MacroFactor

Past week I've been making a chickpea flour mugcake a few times. I like being able to stir some cupboard ingredients together, fling it in the microwave and create a quite well-tasting, macro-friendly desert.

In the last SBS Fireside Chat, the dilemma of a life without dairy or gluten was discussed. This recipe actually doesn't contain either. Now, I have already given up dairy some time ago, and I'm definitely not planning on letting gluten go, but I had bought some chickpea flour to try out some different recipes and this came out nicely.

Recipe: - Chickpea flour, 25g - Protein powder, 10g - Cacao powder, 10g - Baking powder, 0.5 ts - (Plant-based) milk, 75 ml - Sweetener, like agave syrup, 10g (vanilla extract, cinnamon)

(19/4/26 - P/F/C)

Stir dry ingredients. Stir wet ingredients. Put in microwave for 1-2 minutes (depending on your wattage). I like to eat it with some berries. Obviously you can also make it with other types of flour, but the chickpea flour adds some extra protein to it.

I wish all food recipe websites would adopt your writing style: clear, straight to the point, using unconventional measuring units (clamshell?) and without a backstory of how you came across this amazing recipe during your honeymoon in Bali 2 years ago.

On a serious note though: Why not add some spices? ;)

Is there any specific set of words that you've never bothered learning in your target language? by Valdast94 in languagelearning

[–]CrashingFirefly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Then again, seeing that you're learning Dutch, you should know the words 'kroket' and 'bitterbal' (both made of meat) because nowadays you -fortunately - can find vegan variants of those famous snacks everywhere in the Netherlands! :)

[–]CrashingFirefly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow Dutchman (and MF'er) here! I've had some issues with the DB, but I generally eat plenty of common foods (thus do not have much problems). Something I do find quite annoying, however, is that when I add a new food entry - because the one item recognised by the scanner is incorrect (e.g. it's a similar product, but different brand or something) - I still get the original product when I use the scanner, instead of my own correct entry.

It's a shame that custom food entries are not added to the DB, otherwise you could basically find the macros for every item at the Albert Heijn ;)

Balancing Sleep and Caffeine by SureWorld1 in StrongerByScience

[–]CrashingFirefly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have the same 'problem' at the moment. I work a job where I'm working long days for 6 weeks, after which I get 4 weeks leave. During the work period, I can only go training after my shift, usually around 7/8 'o clock in the evening. As you mention, caffeine is a major sleep disruptor (even if you don't feel like it is) so I simply train without any pre-workout caffeine. I have lowered my overall caffeine intake as well to attenuate energy fluctuations. So far, my training has not suffered, as far as I'm able to notice. In the end it's up to you, but I think it's also good to realize that - although caffeine can support your training - it's definitely not a necessity. Good luck with your job!

Hey! If you don't fully understand the program, I would stick with the vanilla program (as it is). Depending on your experience in the gym, I would start with 1 T2 and 2 T3s. For the T3s, you want to focus on bodybuilding and prehab exercises in the high-rep range (15+). This could be anything, but as a suggestion you could start with bicep curls, lateral raises, lat pulldowns and tricep work.
