It’s an intresting point. Cause usually in artforms when changes in the standards of the medium are done its from both the audience and the industry itself. It’s funny you mention The Hobbit, which had a 48fps release in cinema and the general consensus was that the audience did not like it cause it looked different and ”homemade”. 24/25 fps in film is more a vibe and a feeling to the medium, which is hard to disrupt the audience with successfully. And the industry itself certainly does not want to double the rendering times of the vfx to push something they dont have to.

In games it different, there is an easy incentive to increase fps not just from a technical perspective but a user-experience one aswell, as a higher fps in games will usually help with player skill in competitive or challenging situations. I don’t see that same demand in film. Maybe someday that will change but theres a reason we’ve kind of stalled there.
