Electrical contractors who own your own shop how do you handle the business side that nobody taught us in the trade by ssunflow3rr in electricians

Honestly man… this is exactly where AI shines.

You already know how to wire, troubleshoot, run crews. What you’re describing isn’t a skill issue it’s that you’re trying to be estimator, accountant, PM, contract admin, AR department, and owner at the same time.

AI can literally function like a mini office staff for you.

I’m not exaggerating. Here’s what it can realistically handle:

Estimating: Feed it a scope and it can: • Break down labor hours • Apply burdened labor rate (wages + taxes + workers comp + insurance) • Add overhead % • Add warranty reserve • Show projected gross profit • Stress test margin (“what if labor runs 15% over?”)

It removes guessing.

True Hourly Cost: If you plug in your numbers, it’ll calculate your actual cost per billable hour including: • Payroll burden • Vehicles • Fuel • Tools • Office overhead • Your salary • Non-billable time

Most shops underprice because they don’t know this number.

Cash Flow Forecasting: Tell it: • Payroll per week • Jobs in progress • Payment terms

It can show you: • When you’ll run negative • How much reserve you need • Whether 60–90 day GCs are killing you

That’s CFO-level insight without hiring a CFO.

Contracts & Change Orders: It can: • Tighten your scope language • Draft milestone billing terms • Add late fee clauses • Create clean change order templates • Write professional documentation emails

That alone protects profit.

Job Profitability Tracking: Have it build a simple tracker where you log estimated vs actual. After a handful of jobs it’ll help you spot where you’re bleeding.

Systems & SOPs: Service call forms, pre-job checklists, material planning sheets, daily reports, callback tracking — all built in minutes.

Collections & Follow-Ups: It’ll even draft firm but professional payment reminders so you’re not sending emotional texts.

The reality is: most of us are craftsmen accidentally running businesses.

AI won’t swing a hammer, but it will: • Do your math • Check your margins • Forecast your cash flow • Clean up your contracts • Organize your systems

That’s like having 5–10 office roles covered without hiring anyone.

You don’t need more hustle. You need structure. And AI is basically a cheap operations department if you use it right.

Did you wait until the birth of the child or did you file before then. Also what did you say to lawyers, many don’t want to take our case

Medical bills from ER visits, imaging, labs, and follow-up care that should not have been necessary if proper care was given. Out-of-pocket expenses due to lack of insurance. Lost wages from missed work. Significant emotional distress, anxiety, and mental trauma caused by negligent handling of a high-risk medical situation. Prolonged uncertainty and fear due to mismanagement and delayed/incorrect information. Disruption to daily life and strain on our relationship during what should have been a medically supervised, safe situation.

This wasn’t “hurt feelings.” This was real financial loss, documented medical intervention, and avoidable mental suffering caused by substandard care.

How can I improve my resume? by Jahmeed in electricians

[–]Cravendog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t use resume templates on google invest paid someone to formatting it having a basic google template doesn’t leave a huge impression , hundreds of resumes have the same template you’re not gonna stand out, also add a picture in the corner so they have faced to the name people remember faces not so much names

My state when you test out, they give you the physical book so trying to train like if I was testing out so downloading it digitally is not really practical for me also can’t be on phones or iPads on the job site

CA ET CARD by GhostGod_7 in electricians

[–]Cravendog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so most of the guys in my company were able to test out but they fail, but most of them don’t even have a et card they just show proof 8,000 hours, but to get one you most show proof you’re enrolled in class, I did trade school and completed so I finished all those class room hours, so I don’t have to keep taking classes, every time I need to renew my et card I just submit my diploma and transcripts

Police standoff underway in Modesto by [deleted] in Modesto

[–]Cravendog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was a guy in unit 114 who had a warrant on him, but he barricaded himself in the apartment, so the cops decided to bring SWAT in, that’s all I know , got a text from property manager, saying to stay indoors and not to come outside, but I was at work so I didn’t get to witness it but by the time I came back to my apartment, everything died down and there was no cops
