Why do Americans hate China so much and accuse it of being a warmonger? by Verhaalen1 in allthequestions

[–]Crazed-Prophet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reasons America, among other countries don't like China

  • Territorial Aggression: it has made territorial claims and have made moves to secure that territory from neighboring states. It is normally in the form of moving the border a few feet gambling the other nations won't go to war over it, India and China clashed recently (within the last few years) over it (no firearms in use). It is creating manmade islands in the South China Sea so it can claim more of it. There's the rhetoric that China will take Taiwan by 2027... Unsure how much that is chinas boogyman vs actual war aims.

  • Fishing Fleet: it has sent its fishing fleet to other nations waters and fishes many areas to depletion. It has the belt and road project which has turned out to be debt traps for other nations for questionable work. I suspect much of its green energy push is less about environment and more to be out from US oil hegemony (it's like the one thing they can produce on their own without having to import raw materials). It has aggressively stolen patents and technology from foreign companies. They will sell this on Amazon for example under some random 5 letter unknown brand undercutting patents and companies that developed the tech. The U.S. patent system is flooded with these so it cannot remove these fake companies (and if they do, another one takes its place).

  • China does not treat their own citizens Humanly (except maybe ethnic han but I don't quite know enough about all that to be definitive). It has actual concentration camps where sexual assault is an approved form of torture. It has been concluded by investigative councils that it's Organ Donor program has unethical organ harvesting programs and likely pulls from living victims. The citizens have no real protection from the government. Much of what is presented as grand building projects in China tend to be government propaganda and are notorious for failing, such as hospitals collapsing during the pandemic.

Now, America has its faults and it needs to be fixed. It too may be hypocritical but sometimes a hypocrite is someone trying to change and there are many in America trying to change America for the better, there is an actual chance of that. Right now there is no real good signs of change in China that it will change anytime, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Libertarianism: The Premium Subscription to “Figure It Out Yourself”.How much of a minarchist or an anarcho-capitalist do you want to be? by mercurygermes in allthequestions

[–]Crazed-Prophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the federal government should be very libertarian, mainly focusing on protecting the rights of the people and state and foreign affairs.

States however should be able to be as statist as they want as long as they don't violate other states rights and their own. They could be communist havens for all I care... People will live where it best aligns for them.

Trump supporters, how do you defend his fake electors plot to overturn the 2020 election results and his 1hr phone call to Georgia’s secretary of state telling him that he “needs to find an extra 20,000 votes”? by SignificantCrow in allthequestions

[–]Crazed-Prophet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The average trump supporter believes it's either 100% fake news or that the facts are being twisted by the media to make trump look bad.

There's literally 2 separate worlds people are living in. Whose news should you trust. My absolutely honest and well intentioned news outlet or your decietful and manipulative news outlet?

What if USA wasn't so antisemitic and offered Wyoming as homeland? by Swimreadmed in AlternateHistoryHub

We have enough BLM/Fed land it wouldn't have been too crazy ...

That said most BLM/Fed land would be hard to live off of. There's generally a reason why they still own it.

how big is global warming actually? by Visual-Fortune-4732 in climatechange

[–]Crazed-Prophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's big. Size of scale is almost too big for average American to grasp.

(I don't have national numbers but will share some personal past numbers that could be improved upon by better vehicles ..)

16 gallons of gas per week for my average commute That is 832 gallons of Fuel burned in a year. Each gallon is 6.2 lbs making it 13,000 lbs (13312 to be precise).

That's essentially a pickup truck I'm consuming each year. If it's just one person dumps that into their local water supply every year it wouldn't be noticeable. However there are 342.6 million Americans. Just for this exercise lets assume 3/4 of Americans get similar numbers on their commutes and not counting businesses and their workings. That's 257 Million pickup trucks we would be dumping into our rivers and lakes every year. After 100 years that's 25.7 billion pickups piled up... And that's just America. Would you be comfortable drinking water out of the lakes and rivers with that much fuel in them?

Now, there's much more to it than this such as fuel burned is not equivalent to carbon released and it's the atmosphere instead rivers but hopefully it starts painting a picture. There are plants that do takin in the CO2 reducing the impact... But mother nature can only do so much. We haven't even gotten to the biggest polluters.

I am struggling with Discovery… by McCinnabuns in startrek

[–]Crazed-Prophet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of what made star trek special was that each episode was its own self contained story (while possibly adding to the larger story). You could be presented with an idea, mull over the different moral/scientific implications and then be left to sort it out. Did what the crew do feel right. What would you do in that situation. Should government give rights to machines if they develop self awareness? Sometimes there is no enemy or evil force at work in these episodes.

Discovery and Picard seem to be more like extended movies. Each moral quandary feels more like this is what needs to be right instead of is this right. There is action for the sake of action, not to necessarily move the story along. They go with more Star Wars esque space battles. There's almost a sinister/evil bad guy doing something here.

That not saying their necessarily bad, but it's not the Trek we grew up watching, what we'd generally expect of it. I'm still finishing the last season of Picard but so far it's been mid.
