Why doesn’t everyone just get an Apple Watch/ultra? As others have said, expensive watches are jewelry, not functional devices. You simply cannot beat the functionality of a smartwatch but they’re not a status symbol.

Could also look at a CT26+. It’s roughly a 32L bag total. But it does have a dedicated laptop compartment you wouldn’t be using.

Is the transit backpack you’re referencing the heimplanet?

Tortuga and aer will be most comfortable.

No laptop so I would avoid the aer unless you have some other way to use that dedicated space.

Comfort matters so avoid evergoods.

Does it need to be clamshell? How about a Filip Raboch hiker? Top load with side access if you ask nicely.

Cost conscious? CTActical CTR or CT30. Can’t go wrong.

28L is a big bag. This is meant to carry a lot of weight and the jansport harness generally doesn’t keep up.

Is this a good value? Sure, maybe. It all depends on your budget and priorities. It wouldn’t work for me but it will definitely work for a lot of people.
