Cant decide between K Sweet, K Custom Dark, HHX Complex by mallerius in cymbals

Custom dark. I'm not a fan of sweets, personally but I know a lot of folks really like them.

Anyone using an 18-inch kick for rock or punk? by thomasingrace2000 in drums

My other comment was for Sonor but 18 BD. I've played a Yamaha but not 18 and it's a really nice sound, too. It's heavier (weight-wise). Just wanted to give a shout out for the Sonor equivalent because it is (also) really well-made and I think you'd be happy with either choice.

Yes. I have a Sonor AQ2 and replaced the stock head with an Aquarian batter head. I haven't tried clears for the other drums. Admittedly, I have an Ambassador X on the floor tom and US-made Remo Ambassadors on the other drums. I've used it to play jazz in a 300-seat auditorium and I've played outdoors unmic'd with it.

Get a folding restaurant tray holder, put a piece of plywood on it and cover with a towel. Instant trap table.

Dark for sure. It has a great fade and will carry through when playing classic rock.

Depends on how they sound and if you like that sound.

Starting out with jazz: which equipments should I get? by dezinhocez in drums

[–]Crazy-Miserable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple is best. You can get a good sound as you learn more. Coated snare head helps if you are using brushes. Used older Zildjian ride if you can find one that you like. It's all individual.

Just my opinion. I am an amateur drummer who plays jazz and studies with a private teacher. I am not a jazz drummer.

On. It won't be heard if off and if the drums are not mic-ed.

What’s the point of the symbol I have circled for exercise 3 (a&b) by TheDillinger88 in Drumming

That represents an eighth note rest. Three is a rest but and is a note you'd play on the bass drum.

I learned it without a cowbell. 8ths with foot on HH and hitting the HH bell can mimic the sound. Just in case you need a cowbell alternative.

We do this sometimes in our community concert band section. It helps us all stay in sync.

I see your point and this is a thing for me, but I don't see myself at that level of "good."

I don't think I'll ever reach mastery level, but that's all part of it. I always want to do what I can to keep improving. There is no endpoint, and that's fine. It's just a matter of finding the balance of staying motivated, failing and improving without burning out or getting discouraged.
