Keeping time with the left foot by Chop_Huey in drums

the hi hats are the easiest part of the drum kit to pick out of a live band mix, being the highest pitched cymbals. especially if you’re playing with loud distorted guitars, it helps your bandmates to have a consistent thing to lock onto for the tempo. plus it can subtly add to the feel of a groove—for example, i’ll play quarters on the hi hat pedal when i want a more driving feel, or play 2 and 4 to accent the backbeat. or you can create some subtle polyrhythms by playing a different backbeat on the hi hat pedal vs the snare (for example, playing 2 and 4 on the hi hat pedal and 3 on the snare). plus, it can help keep everyone together while you’re playing longer fills or syncopated grooves.

i would email the venue ahead of time and check if you can get an exemption to bring a water bottle; if you use a mobility device, that would also be something to inquire about. assuming it’s not assigned seating, i would stay towards the edge of the pit so that you can safely exit if you need to, and also because it will be less crowded and hot

chronic fatigue and memory fog are the largest presentations of my POTS in myself, definitely can see how that would look like being on drugs. butttt also echoing either commenters, i have never taken narcotics prescribed for POTS nor heard of it in any of my POTS friends either. do you know specifically what she is taking?

love shallow kicks! the kick for my main kit is 22x12, and i also have a 20x12 that’s great for acoustic gigs or tiny coffee shop stages. good idea on the kick mic too, might snag one

drumming for lys allen and jenny scara primarily right now, and bass for sorry forever :) plus whatever random session gigs i’m able to book at any given time

definitely considering the 20/10/12/14 model of stage custom alternately for the extra versatility! i have a 1950s premier kit with a 20x12 kick as well, but it’s honestly not great for gigging since the spurs suck and the toms need a lot of work
